Black exhaust smoke

Last Friday I noticed while driving up a hill that my D3 was emitting clouds of very black smoke, more like a tractor, I thought Crying or Very sad There were also puffs of black smoke when the accelerator was depressed quickly. The car has done just over 138,000 kms and is just over 3 years old.

When it was checked by my local dealer, they found a split pipe at the boottom of the radiator - I think it was an intercooler hose (is that right?). Here a picture

The errant hose was replaced today, although the new part (called Ladeluftkühler in German) looks different from the original. Here the replacement (as best I could take the photo)

Has something changed here over the years?

The car seems fine now. The repair cost just under €500 (incl. VAT / Mwst), over half the cost for labour.

Looks more like the intercooler radiator Confused and explains the cost of repair Big Cry A split like that in the radiator (or hose) would mean a big loss of charged air and lack of power Crying or Very sad

Just to confirm - Ladeluftkühler = Intercooler. ( Load Air Cooler.)

It happaned to me in the past, and I found out that the rubber host which supply air to the intercooler were dry aince it is close to the exhaust pipe, and a crack was found in it.

Just been told that this was the problem with mine. I had been aware of increased induction roar and thought the reason I hadn't been aware previously was that the sound system is normally turned up. But power was down and the smoke was just unbelievable under load.
All done now, just waiting for LR Dunton to agree to replace my compressor and I'll take it back.
