4 Months in and I have only had the window bounce issue which I fixed in no time after reading how to here.
I have owned a lot of new cars and I never had a trouble free first few months like I have had with the D4 and my Mini Cooper Diesel. Discovery 4 SE Long range fuel tank Kaymar Rear Bar.

Had mine 3 weeks. Only probs have been rear n/s window not closing on one-touch (dealer looked at, but couldn't fix quickly, so it's going in next week for another go), and the r/h windscreen wiper not done up tight enough, so stopped sweeping A spanner solved that.
Oh, and the EPB has been beeping at me today.
But despite that, I couldn't be more pleased with my lovely beastie!

For comparison, my D2 came with a defective master cylinder, years of brake faults, and eventually the need for a new $800 brake ecu that could reset all those faults.
So far, my D4 just needs a software update to correct the global locking feature.

As Colin said the D3 had some initial problems.
I waited for second build on D3 before I bought (in hindsight I should have gone for third build as it was a completely new model) Second bild should be right for D4 as most of it is the same as D3.
Fixes will be coming. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Whilst you are right to be worried about buying any product that appears to have numerous problems, if you look at the various posts you will notice that it is not a case of every owner having every problem, rather more a case of knowing you'll get one but not exactly which!
Sort of like Christmas, you know you'll get something......
My last car, XC90, was absolutely brilliant, never let me down, but still had recalls and upgrades, prior to that my Fiat Multipla was faultless but bits started to fall off after 3 years, so no sense or reason to it really.
You'll love it.

Had my d4 7 weeks and 1,100 miles now.
It has the window problem that seems to be common, understood and easily fixed by the dealer. It also has one mis-coloured bit of trim that will be replaced. Mechanically, it has been perfect (touch wood etc. etc.).
I find it intersting that when I have cars that are supposed to be 'reliable' (eg. Mercedes, BMW, Porsche) I get disproportionally upset when stuff goes wrong. It also seems to cost a lot and take a while to get fixed. When I have had cars that are supposedly unreliable (eg/. Lotus and now my Land Rover) they are never as bad as you think they might be. Thinking through it I spent less time and money fault fixing over 6 years of Lotus ownership than I did with either 2 yrs of BMW 3 (£2000 for a DSC unit?) and 4yrs of Porsche 911 (don't mention RMS to me!).

Just coming up to 8K miles and no problems at all, I have had no updates done probably because I have had no reason to visit the dealer. Not getting anywhere near the stated MPG and certainly no where near 31MPG!!!! but sheer bliss to drive. 8) Interestingly I do have random USB playback issues ......

I didn't have a single software problem with my D3.
So we kept the ECU and had to replace everything but the engine and the doors.
If LR haven't updated the diffs in the D4 then they will fail.
There was a theory that the paint in the diffs was reacting with the seals, causing failure.
That doesn't explain why 2009s diffs are failing.
I said that I would never own another LR, but if they can get the D4 "right".....who knows Pete

Interesting that.
As I said in my original post, I have not had a single problem with my D3 'S' in 4 years and 30k miles.
However, I recently pitched my caravan next to a guy with a D3 'HSE', same year, from new, with 33k miles on it and he said that he had had so much trouble with it, including new Diff, new Turbo, he rattled off a dozen or so problems, that LR had given him a 4th year warranty extension for no extra cost.
Shows that you can get a 'good un' or a 'bad un' ~ takes your chance I suppose. 2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey
