seems very solid - still have to test it offroad though - it does tend to reduce the departure angle Duncan

And it works fine on the detachable tow-bar. I've had a number of Thule bike carriers on different cars and they've all been good kit.

Hi all, i also have a removable towbar and was looking at these options but hampered by the thought of when i tow and want to carry bikes at the same time this will not obviously work, i now with a fixed towbar you can fix a bracket behind the ball so you can tow and use the bike rack......any ideas on this ?

save yourself a lot of money...£10 for a folding plastic step. Use your current bars and racks on the top! Easy peasy - not so good for SWMBO.d4 HSE

I'm only 5'7. Think I might need a cherry picker not a step to get up there!

I had the same dilemma, but found this solution from Swagman bike racks. Instead of the rack going into the receiver, it slides over the tow bar. So you can have the tow bar & rack mounted at the same time. Here's a video of the rack that should give a clearer picture http://youtu.be/0DAKLY5v1L8 . Bought mine from etrailer here in the states http://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Bike-Racks/Swagman/S64955.html.
They have few different models for 3, 4 or even 5 bikes.

Are these turtle bike racks the best? I want to keep 2 bikes secure and the disco undamaged. I used to take the van but now I have a discovery in my life I want to head out further into the wildernes.

I have the 2 bike Thule one and the best thing is you can tilt the rack and still open the tailgate fully to get stuff out of the boot, (not so sure how this would work with the 3 bike one as itmight catch on the ground. Works just fine for me.

Used it a couple of times and its fantastic. Love the fact that you can tilt it out of the way to get into the boot, even with the bikes on.
It doesn't solve the 'how to carry bikes when towing' problem, granted, but when solo I think the best solution out there.
Regarding carrying bikes when towing, not sure why but I don't fancy the idea of something clamped to the tow ball...so when our 5 month old daughter is old enough for us to be taking the bikes away with the caravan I think ours will go on the roof.
Cheers

Hi
I want to buy a platform bike rack. But i think the thule ones are very expensive...
What do you think of the MONT BLANC 4 ALLROAD?
It seems similar, i know it probably want be as good but is it good enough or should
i just buy a thule.
Any other ones i should look out for?
just bought this bike rack
there are so many "safety bits" that's really rock solid
http://www.bicyclerack-mottez.com/article....amp;rid=12
fitting the rack on the removable hook is quite simple but i can't consider removing it each time i come back so i ended up buying another swan neck tow bar
now i have one towbar permanently fitted to the bike rack and another one "just" for towing
