Bike Rack Recommendation - for 4 bikes |
|
Having got the car, I found that I also had a removable tow hitch fitted. (Not sure if they're standard or not, and it did take 4 days of soaking the thing in my homemade recipe of ATF and acetone to free it up).
In need of a bike rack and frankly gob smacked by some of the prices that some here have paid, I found thing thing on the interweb. It holds up to 4 bikes, fits to the hitch and locks, and also swings down to allow the tailgate to open.
Needless to say I forgot to take a photo of it with bikes on, but here are 2 of it on my car. I did 400 miles with 2 bikes on and the thing was rock solid. It's easy to fit and it built like a tank. I got it here: http://www.roofbox.co.uk/bike-carriers/
I don't think they have my model listed, but it was about £110 delivered. Highly recommended indeed.
OK - totally defeated by the requirements to upload a photo to the site (way too complex for me) so I found the link for the right model: http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4...uery=21915
Works for the LR3 as seen with the Merc in the photo - tail gate opens fully, no probs. PAGODA

I bought the Thule 3 bike carrier with 4th bike adaptor from roofbox in the summer, it wasnt cheap, but it is fantastic, just clips on. Bikes really easy to load, and they are supported by the bit they were designed to stand on, the wheels.
We dic 1500miles in the summer with it on (did take it off to go around the Nurburgring) bikes just sat there solid as a rock, barely affected the MPG.
The tipping system worked great, really easier to operate and could open both parts of the tailgate only problem was couldnt get into the boot on the eurotunnel due to the car behind being parked too close.
