BF GOODRIDGE all terrain KO 265/65X18

I am keen to find out if anyone has fitted these tires to a D3. According to the spec. sheet the dimensions seem to be slightly smaller than the Cooper STT 275 which were reported to be rubbing slightly. I noted that this BFG tire is widely used in the USA on e.g. Ford F150 trucks, with good reviews re noise and offroad ability. It could be the tire we have all been waiting for?

Does anyone know the difference between R speed rating and V? What is the required rating for tyres on the D3?

Other than the speed rating, the load ratings etc look great, and if the tyre is 1/2" smaller than the 18"STT I bet it would fit great.

V is 149mph / 240kph while R is 105mph / 170 kph and is only used on winter and/or reinforced tyres.

I would be perfectly happy with an R tyre on a D3 provided the load rating was 111 or higher.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Load rating 122

That's certainly good enough.
Anyone out there used this tyre?

I have the a/t's on my other rig. I haven't had any problems with them. They are great for crawling over rocks/boulders, sand, snow, and pavement. They aren't too good in the mud....but they're not designed for it. Smile In any event, anything would be better than the stock goodyears. I can't believe how little traction they have in snow....

What's most amazing about the BFG's is that last forever. I mean, the tire wear on these is tremendous.

Also, with the triple sidewall, flats are few and far between. In the USA, they have a no questions asked replacement warranty. You get a flat, they replace the tire. Pretty impressive.

I agree that this is a great tire. Would still like to know about this specific size 265/65X18 and how well it fits the D3 - does it rub at all? According to tirerack.com it is in stock in the USA, but its not listed in the UK or Africa ?

At this website: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html, I compared my 285/60/18 Nitto's which many LR3 and RRS owners use, to the 265/65/18 BFG A/T's you listed.

(edit: my first post was riddled with numerical errors - fixed now!)
Tire Size Comparison

BFG A/T: 265/65-18
Sidewall 6.8in
Radius: 15.8in
Diameter: 31.6in
Revs/Mile: 639

Nitto Terra Grappler: 285/60-18
Sidewall: 6.7in
Radius: 15.7in
Diameter: 31.5in
Revs/Mile: 641

Cooper STT: 275/65-18

Sidewall: 7.0in
Radius: 16.0in
Diameter: 32.1in
Revs/Mile: 629

Odd that this site does not list width of the tires, but it should give you a general idea. Hope that helps

BFG

Thanks. The sizes of the BFG & Nitto's seem almost the same. I remember reading about the Nitto's and that they fit the D3 well, i.e. no rubbing/touching the body? All that remain now is to find a dealer to import these BFG 's into Southern Africa.

Re: BFG

I have a set of these on order and will report back my findings when I get them mounted. On paper they look like a great fit and I know they perform well as I have them on my DII.

Thanks PCrover, when do you expect to have the BFG's fitted?

I am hoping they arrive before Friday as I was planning on an off road trip next weekend to try them out.

But you already know that Wink

BFG A/T: 265/65-18
Nitto Terra Grappler: 285/60-18
Cooper STT: 275/65-18

That's the width, in mm admittedly but it's easily converted.
The second figure is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width

I have had the BFGs for several months now. One off-road outting, no rubbing even at access height. First shot is road height, second is off road.
I've only 10lbs of air in the full size spare and it is still really wedged in there.

Some more pics in this post for anyone interested.
