NO such thing. I did 7000km with the Copper STT 275/65, 4000km of which was serious offroading. No appreciable difference in performance

Oke !
That sounds great... I saw you have a tdv6, and I wondered about the performance cause had realy noticable loss of power with the TD5 and larger tires, thats why !
Maybe no wait for the grabbers at2, and go for the BFG.....

How is the road noise?
I've fitted BFG ATs to all three of my previous LRs. On both the Classic and the P38 road noise was minimal, possibly less than on the "kojac specials" that I had to fit one wet afternoon when I had two tyres shreaded by scrap metal dumped on the trail (glad it was my tyres no a horse's leg that got wrecked....)
As others have said the life expectancy is amazing, after 60k miles on the P38 I was down to about 8mm on all four.
Looking forward to them being avaialble in a size to fit the "new" Disco3 here in the UK.

Michelin (owners of BFG) have no plans to bring these tyres to Europe yet despite many promises. This is the exact tyre I wanted to fit to my D3 as I have always fitted the BFG ATs to my other Land Rovers with awesome reliability.
I had to go for the General Grabber AT2 in 255/60-18. V rated. They are a replica of the BFG's. I will be trying them out in Morocco next month. I'll let you know if they are any good....

I have used BFG AT's on previous 2 Discos. They may achieve good mileage but I never found them to be a good offroad tyre, the sidewalls were too stiff and the being a long wearing rubber compound they chipped very easily on gravel roads and in rocky terrian. I found that the AT2's actually have more cut resistance than the BFG's. On a recent desert trip the Nissans with BFG ATs and MTs suffered more chipping than the AT2's.
Note my post regarding low profile tyres in general.

D load rated or E? I had the BFG MT in E on a D2 and is was indeed stiff. The D rated BFG ATs on the same vehicle were not so stiff. They looked like they were already aired down at anything below 40psi.
