A better way to jack it up?

Even with my troley jack, changing 4 wheels on the D4 is a bit of a pain.

The "by the book" method is to put the vehicle in "all terrain mode", choose a jacking point on the chassis and to pump like hell until the shock is completely extended and the wheel begins to raise.

Did anyone chose to put the jack under the wheel control arm, or the lower part of the shock? It would allow to lift the car without having to extend the shock?

Or did you find any "efficient" method?

yes, you can jack under the supension arm if you dont leave it too long.

I jacked my D3 up for 6 years that way and regularly changed the wheels. i would say its also safer . its not jacked up for more than a minute or so. I used to jack up on the chassis until the jack slipped, also the LRA man jacked up on the arm and said it was fine , it only needs to be jacked up a few centimetres rather than 2 foot under the chassis Thumbs Up

I always jack below the suspension as life is too short to jack the chassis all the way up - as is the jack as well! However, so as not to risk shortening it any further, big blocks under the chassis before work commences.

Thumbs Up , if you are going to work on it then put blocks or axle stands under the chassis and release the jack under the suspension arm

There is a jacking point to lift both wheels on one side - that is what I'd use if changing wheels.

put the car in off road.

put the tip only pushing up light in the recess that the suspensions arms in the middle. only touching, not too much pressure, no lifting.

select now access ride level, and you will see the wheel pivoting over the jack tip, it puts the needed lift to be safe unmounting the wheels, they get to a point that they dont touch the road.

all four wheels could be changed in this way.

i do it and no problem ever changing or swapping my tyres, no need to be lifting the car to the sky to do it.

I jack on the wishbone using an old LR bottle jack. Leave the vehicle in access height and it takes about 4 pumps on the handle before the wheel is about 2 inches off the floor.

Perfect.

here you go, get into my gallery, beta upload is great, so fast and easy to upload files.

No pump needed at all, no effort and so fast. 2 turns only at the jack form wheel to wheel to touch slighty the suspension arm.

the jack is a 1973 Ford Mustang Jack so trusty (and rusty....i must paint it Laughing Laughing ) well over engineered.

the photos are of the front wheel, the rears are the same.
