Best Tyres For Disco 3 - Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus

My Silverback Disco3 was in need of a full matching set of boots recently and having researched a whole load of tyres, I decided I wanted a rugged off-road look tyre with all the chunky blobby bits on, but was concerned that by going for a full off-road tyre, this would create a lot of road noise in the cabin.
Bearing in mind I'm rarely actually gonna ever go off road, except maybe for camping etc. I found there to be a very limited choice of All-Terrain tyres out there that fits the standard 19 inch alloys. 255/55/19.
Typically to get a bigger choice of tyre you'd have to be on a lot smaller wheels than the standard 19's.
Anyway, getting to the point, I extended my budget to the max and opted for PIRELLI SCORPION AT PLUS.
And boy they've totally transformed the whole look of the vehicle from a road-faring car to a proper off-road look. They are quiet as a mouse, have a fabulous pattern of random big chunky 'blobby bits' - Not the swirling curved line versions or deep lined grooves you get on the typical road tyres. Look them up on the Pirelli website and understand all the very well engineered aspects of this particular tyre. They've got extra angular blobby bits on the shoulder sidewalls too which help spit out stones - they really give the Disco an 'I can go anywhere' look.
I managed to get my local Kwik-Fit to source these in a couple of days and were the cheapest out there. Other suppliers on eBay and Google searches typically charged the same for tyres only, whereas Kwik-Fit came in at the same price, all fitted and balanced etc. Plus they're reputable too. I'm new on here but if anyone wants a picture I'll try work out how to upload some here. They're not cheap at about £165 a tyre but absolutely well worth it. Everyone who saw my before and after are all really impressed with the new off-road look. They look great both from the side and also from on front or behind the car.
Hope this helps anyone out there that's undecided as to what to go for..... More Smiles Per Gallon Too !

Hello

Most of us have been wondering about the new AT Plus. Please send us some pics of them fitted to the your Disco.

I am due to get tires in December and its a choice of Pirelli ATR, the AT Plus or the Cooper ATT.

Thanks

I'm keen on these but I do a lot of skiing... I'd like to know how they stack up against full winter tyres, anyone?

They won't be as good in winter conditions as a full winter tyre is. If you don't need the added off road ability, then I'd say stick with winter road tyres.

I found my Grabber AT3 were good enough in snow, not so good in icy conditions, and I'd expect the Pirelli AT+ currently fitted to be the same. These tyres are "winter rated" but they don't have the compound or the large sipe numbers of a true winter tyre, hence the poor performance in icy conditions.

Alpine roads often state that you need snow chains or the three peak snowflake symbol.

If you get caught... or get stuck without either you'll probably get a fine.

The AT+ have the 3PMSF symbol fyi.

I have 255/60R18 on my Freelander for over a year. This year did a short 12k km trip across Australia & back through the centre of Australia. Reduced pressure to 24psi for our outback corrugated roads. Very happy with the tyres but they are getting a bit noisier as they wear.

Any more feedback on these?

I need to replace the Goodyear Wrangler HP All-weather that came on my D4.
Mainly road use, but want all-season for annual ski trip and I drag a heavy boat trailer up slipways. Any advice welcome, as I’ve read a few threads here and just getting more confused. Cheers Thumbs Up
