Best tyres for D4.

Hi,

I'm sure this is a question that has been asked a million times before, but couldn't find an answer when searching.

I have recently had the lower arms replaced and tracking done - so am thinking about upgrading the tyres on my D4. We do quite a lot of towing and are often in the mud, although nothing too major. So if REALLY like a set of tyres that were more capable off road / knobbly but yet don't make too much noise on the road. I like the look of the tyres with the wall writing, such as the scorpions- but don't want to spend 'too' much money to achieve this!

Am I asking too much, has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks.

I would suggest that providing the size of your current rims and tyres would be helpful Thumbs Up

It was going so well up to that point. Big Cry Big Cry

TBS, knobbly = noisy. If you don't need full blown muds then Pirelli ATRs, or GG AT3s with winter snowflake rating. No one tyre is ideal for all conditions but AT types give best mix IMHO. Thumbs Up

If you have 18" rims or smaller I would recommend the BFG AT KO2

I have averaged over 50k per set out of mine and, unlike their predecessor, they are also rated as a true winter tyre. I found them perfectly acceptable froma noise perspective, unlike the MT tyres I'm running just now.

If you insist on the bling look they also have the white writing on one side, but that is not really my cup of tea TBH!

Can fault my Duratracs, been on well over 2 Year’s now and hardly worn and still fairly quiet. Driven everything from axle deep mud, wet slippery grass, snow in the alps and done 2 Land Rover Parties off-road with flint and rock Pyrenees trips thrown in and they have taken it all in their stride.

My only complaint was the speed rating downgrade. I have S rating but I believe only Q is available now. Still can’t understand why they did that Rolling Eyes

At that size, Duratrac (with limited speed rating) or AT3 with a 130mph rating.

I have the AT3 here and it was fine at the last Land Rover Party and has also behaved well when dynamic mode is selected for some fast road work. AT3 is also winter rated.

I’ll be after some replacement tyres for my factory fit tyres. 255/55R19. Torn between GG AT3 and the Duratrac. Mostly road use and the odd camping field, want a single set of tyres all year round, don’t tow, do about 12k miles per year. Both tyres are probably more extreme than I need but I like the rugged look (in my tyres).

From messages on here, looks like both are good choices. Is it down to price or is there a killer factor I should consider?

I must admit to liking Cooper Tyres. I've had Discoverer ATRs on my first D2, Discoverer AT3's on the next one as well as the Navara pickup (wash my mouth out Smile) so am looking at either Zeon LTZ (as above) or AT3's to replace the current road tyres.

All the Coopers gripped the road well, handle adequately on greenlanes and minor offroading, relatively quiet on road and last forever (never done less than 50K miles on a set)...in fact they've outlived all the cars (never had to replace).
