Because after just over 5 weeks I got my D3 back from the dealer today...
Following this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic40615-15.html it turns out the problem was a dirty/contaminated plug connection caused by some bozo of a mechanic changing an air filter sensor with very (very...) oily hands...
And they only found this today (since an intermittent fault starting in May) as they were about to start cutting and stripping part of the wiring loom...
Oh well...I'm just happy to get it back. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Great news, John, but too late for this weekend.
I hope that the mechanic was roasted. As well as your inconvenience, he's cost the dealer a fortune in labour. At least you know that it wasn't down to this.

And one of the sensor plugs that was originally changed is the little black box that is connected to the air hose right by the air box and pipe clip...which is where the oily connector was found...
