Perhaps we could start measuring things in 'Disco 3's' ?????
This means that there are roughly 341 Disco 3's to 1 mile
How many disco3's do you travel a day???21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It wouldn't work - too many digits.
Imagine all the road signs - instead of 'London 10 Miles' you'd get
'London 3410 disco3s'
And you're speedo would be really cramped - 70mph is 23870 d3's Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Only kidding Gurvan, Penguin. I work in the weights and measures field!
Is that next to the Potato field? In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

That winch system is REALLY tempting ! And I've the feeling that the underbody protection is the one imported in France by Outback Import, right ?
yes you are dead right, the hidden winch mount is made by the same company as well.CLUB "Ah Shor it'll be grand"

Christyler, do you know who actually makes that hidden winch support that you installed? The Outback Import web page doesn't seem to be working so I cannot find out who the manufacturer is. I'd love to get my hands on one for my LR3.

Well, if you consider that using a base twelve system for going from Inches to feets is an evolution I'll that point... :p
But at least, I can still use my fingers without having to add my toes in order to convert from Decimeters to meters...
Hey the system of counting in 12's does come from using your fingers. Look at your hand with the palm up. Your 4 fingers have 12 segments , and your thumb on the same hand acts as a great way to count down each segment in turn by touching each one. Your thumb on the other hand can then tally up each set of 12, so you end up being able to count up to 12 x 12.
In a decimal system, you count all 10 didgits but have no way to cumulate the totals.
Bear in mind these counting systems originated well before paper, pencil or any adding machines and in those days a system of 12's was superior.
In Papua New Guinea their counting system is based on segments of the body - maybe because they then ate those bits Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Nice one ! Thanks...
But I am still unconvinced...

Gurvan, base 12 is a system we (inc. Francais) all still use every day in time (12 hours) and dates (12 months). The other key advantage of base 12 is that it can be divided in to a half, or a third or a quarter and still be a whole number which a base 10 system cannot. That is why many basic food stuffs are still often sold by the dozen (12), such as a dozen eggs or dozen bread buns (baquettes) etc as food stuffs bought at market are then often divided up into equal shares. As you cannot have a fraction of an egg (without breaking it), a dozen eggs is a more useable quantity.
Having said all of that, the numbering system that is used everywhere these days is binary (0 or 1) as all digital systems use that.
Anyway, back to the important stuff, I also fancy a hidden winch mount and those all terrain tyres look just the job too Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Oh, don't worry... I agree with you !
Going binary is probably a revolution whose effects have not yet been fully realized...
And, the hidden winch system and those tyres looks good to me too ! 8)

Eurm, isn't that just because of the MOON (month) phases, which occure in a cycle of 12 during 1 cycle of the earth turning around the sun ??
So that 12 system is not chosen because it was easy, but just because it's the only way to have it correctIn a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin.
