Just put down the deposit on this little thing. 2004 V8 SE, Harman-Kardon audio, premium sat nav, bum warmers all around, very tidy condition and less than 61,000 miles on the clock. Everything seems to work and FSH.

I can feel some mods coming on. Needs a bit more V8 burble for a start Smile

Welcome to the V8 club! Really low mileage you’ve got there. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks Smile

Had a couple of old-school Rover V8s before - 3.5 carb'd in my Lightweight and a 4.0 MegaSpark'n'Squirt injected in a 110. Then went Td5 for the second 110 and D2, now back to V8 power - can't be beaten, even at the petrol pump!!! Wink

Pleased with the mileage - that was #1 priority over age, specification. The idea being that I'm in-time to catch any issues before they come serious.... I don't think I'd get anything with less miles apart from maybe a G4 but they're silly money.

Even with low mileage there might be things you might want to do to get the vehicle shipshape.

Unless they’ve been done, most fluids (ATF, diffs, coolant, etc.) could be wise to change at this point.. most people don’t seem to touch the ATF and diffs yet they’re expensive as Censored if they go.

Similarly the auxiliary belts, pulleys, etc. might be good to swap even if you haven’t reached the design mileage. Spark plugs, if they’re original, might also be good to change? If doing them, change the PCV valve at the same time. Doesn’t cost much and one of the few things which can really crap the engine if it fails.

I’m assuming it doesn’t have an original battery. If you’re changing coolant you might want to change the T-piece at the same time, it’s plastic and tends to become brittle over time. If you have an original front differential breather you want to change it to the upgraded model. The original cap can become obstructed which doesn’t allow the front differential to equalize its pressure.

There are a few V8 threads, lots of good info there if you’re unfamiliar with the D3. Thumbs Up

Super, thanks for the advice. ATF change is definitely on the list and I tend to do other fluids every year anyhow, as a good way of keeping an eye on things. Once I pick her up (next weekend) I'll spend my customary couple of hours poking around and getting an idea of where things are, belts and the like.

Hours of fun ahead!!! (Heh - computer changed 'fun' to 'fund'- does it know something I don't....)

Final advice - get a good OBD reader unless you already have one for the D3.

Most people here would say “IIDtool BT” but there are several others available that more or less do similar things.

Welcome to the club mate, just done a 400 mile round trip North West Wales to Leicester and back can't think of many places I would rather be than in a D3 V8, even when a group of kids decided to play silly Censored not sure what I did to draw their ire but not sensible to take on a 300bhp 2.5t 4x4 in a hatchback.

Sounds good Smile Reminds me of the time a mate lent me his BMW when he went travelling, bunch of chavs in a Nova decided to race me in Milton Keynes at the roundabouts. Problem was the Beemer was a 316i - never again do I go to a gunfight with a knife Laughing

Seriously, is that your D3 in the avatar with the RAI? How does the V8 like it - any loss in power?

Yes that's my D3 and it had a safari snorkel, but now has a RAI, but either way not noticed any difference.

Yup, funnily enough was looking at the muffler today - it's bigger than I had in my head! Got to say that whilst I miss the V8 burble at idle, I love the way it's quieter at 70 than my old 530i was, and I thought it was civilised (until you wellied her, then she did the 6 pot scream...)
