Just taken delivery of my first Bean to Cup coffee maker.......a DeLonghi EAS4200.
Had good reviews on Amazon and I thought reasonably priced, can't justify a super expensive one as SWMBO doesn't drink coffee, so it is a "ME" purchase...thought I would buy while I am accumulating brownie points with the cooking duties
Any advice on what beans to buy or avoid?
Also if I buy 1Kg bags, is it right you put them in the freezer once opened to keep them fresh??
Any tips would be welcome ------------------------------

When I was using one of those I tried a good few types of beans, settled on Tesco Espresso beans. Suited me best.

If you have Costco membership then get your beans there - cheaper than anywhere else I've seen. They always have Lavassa Rossa which are OK but for a stronger brew which I prefer they have Venezuelan, Columbian or sometimes Nicaraguan beans - about £8 a kilo I think.

I'd be interested in your experience with it.

We keep our beans/grind in well sealed packaging in the fridge.
I assume the reason for keeping them in a very cold environment is to provide low humidity rather than the temperature per se.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Also interested to know how you get on with the machine.
I love a good coffee and have bought a few machines in the past, none of which made nice coffee and all had a bitter metallic taste.
I tried a basic Krupp's Espresso machine, a fairly expensive Gaggia espresso machine, then a Tassimo pod based machine with Costa pods which again was awful even had a water filter as thought that might be the issue of the metallic bitter taste.

Had one 18 months now and would be without it, after having a Dolce Gusto and various others it seamed expensive even at the half price we paid, but nothing comes close.
Settled on Starbucks espresso readily available from Tesco and the like

We keep our coffee beans in CoffeeGator containers. It has a CO2 valve in it and the beans are kept really fresh.

We've had good results from Starbucks Espresso beans.
They aren't roasted beyond their life, unlike the beans they use for their in-store coffee.
Our normal brew at the moment is IIRC Cafe Direct Machu Picchu with Taylors/Asda (same) Java for the mornings.
One of the things I miss from being in Covent Garden is nipping to Monmouth Coffee Co. and getting them to grind a brew to my requirements.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Try Warwickshire Coffee Company Ltd in Southam, We used him for our restaurant a few years ago before the building was demolished and everybody loved it.
He is for the trade, but will supply 1kg vacuum sealed bags, really nice chap as well.
In fact you have reminded me I need a new machine for our place in Portugal, I might take a few bags of his with me on my next outing.David
Due to it arriving a day early and the beans I ordered not coming until tomorrow, I had to ask SWMBO to pick up some test beans on her way home. Got a small bag from Morrisons.
All set up and I have run a few cups through it as the instructions suggested.
It is making a nice cup of coffee......... 8) Will be playing with the settings to find my personal best cup of coffee.
Steamer works well but I need to buy a small jug to do it properly, the arm of the steamer doesn't pull far enough away from the body of the machine to stir as you froth using a standard size jug.
No where near as noisy as expected, seems no more noisy than my old Tassimo capsule machine.
I can see my caffeine levels going through the roof over the next week or so....... ------------------------------

I try lots of different beans and grounds, but tend to default back to Lavazza. It's very much done to personal taste though. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Got that machine and just buy lots of small bags, so need for fridge
Still trying to find the beans that were with a machine we had in France over the summer without joy, good fun trying all the different beans though.
The machine also takes ground coffee and SWMBO likes the Aldi Columbian.
Only issue I've had with the machine is the occasional air lock. Just need to run the steamer to remove the air.
That's a lot of faffing about to make a cup of coffee..........!! ------------------------------
