BBS site problems

Hello all.
We have been getting a lot of e-mails and PMs about our web site being
down from members of this forum, that i would like to generally address

Our main BBS Web server has been down since about 10AM Wednesday.

Our hosting companies supposedly failsafe infrastructure had a power
outage early last Sunday morning, knocking all their servers out, which
they then restarted manually in small batches. The BBS one was back up
almost straight away and our second one with the E-Mail on was off till
Late Sunday night, but did eventually come back on. Apparently their UPS's
and diesel generators did not kick in as they should have.

While trying to fix the UPS's on Wednesday morning, they apparently
created a power surge that again knocked all the servers out.
This time the E-Mail server was restarted quite quickly but by the end of
the day the BBS one was still not on line.
Turns out that when the main BBS server was powered back on, the OS and
possibly some other stuff was corrupt and the server was not booting.

Annoyingly their response is that this is our problem, although we note
from the data transfer logs that they did a complete server back up just
before. Evil or Very Mad

We could re install the OS and restore our last back up of the contents
but this would loose the last few days of stuff, so we are trying to
repair the existing content first.
However as we have to work remotely using remote tools it's taking
us some time to sort out.

Some parts are already back up, like the web site and shop, although there
are still a lot of typos and garbage charactors that have to be fixed.
Although we are still working on the support parts which we hope to have
working again in the next day or two.

It is of course very annoying, but then this has never happened before and
otherwise we have had no such problems with them in the past and like any
company we are in some respects dependant upon others.

Works fine in Firefox for me, but the shop URL doesn't match the cert.

Take the "2" out of URL www2.blackbox-solutions.com and it's fine...

ie URLs needs to be edited to read www.blackbox-solutions.com instead of www2.blackbox-solutions.com

Hiya Guys

Thanks for your feedback and support. Thumbs Up

Yea we temporarily created a WWW2 copy of the site to test our fixes out on before migrating them to the origional. That means a lot of the links had to be changed for testing and they got accidentally migrated to the origional / live site. And of course as antoniasdad noted, this can be fixed by editing the URL to remove the 2 until i get to fix the links to the various parts of the site, the 2 also does indeed throw the SSL certificate for our shop out.

We have already removed vast numbers of garbage charactors that have suddenly appeared, however if you browse the text in the shop at www/blackbox-solutions/shop a bit you will still see some we have yet to manually clear out.

Of course, just as these have appeared in the readable text, they have also appeared in the code, script and database files, and we are concentrating our efforts on these first, as they affect functionality.

All in all, i am obviously very peeved that this problem was not our doing and that the Hosting company is not doing more to assist us to fix the problem they created.

After getting this sorted, i will obviously be reviewing and considering my options.

I can recommend the hosting company I use for my Villa website and for my home email domains. Been excellent for the last 8 years or so; on the odd time I've needed support they've been very helpful and quick.

No connection with me other than that I'm a happy customer. Assuming I'm allowed to post a link, here it is:
