Battery voltage
Hey all. I am looking for thoughts on this one. With the gap tool in and on live values. Before starting the battery was at 12.4V, just before starting it drops to 9.5V and on running it goes up to 14.5V. I know the agm batteries charge at a higher rate but should it drop that low? The battery is about 3 years old now so could it be on its last legs.
I took it off a while back and put it on the smart charger which said the capacity had dropped to about 60%.
Any thoughts only good ones though please.

Simple. An at 60% of capacity battery… is done.
A fully charged battery (AGM) is at least 12.6 v.
Moreover the 14.5v you read is not the battery reading but the charging from the generator reading.

Voltage always drops when starting the car. From memory it should be around 10.5v, so 9.5v does sound low.Gary

Thanks all. Not the answer I wanted but probably what I expected. It could maybe explain the lack of the start stop also then maybe

Cheers guys. You told me what I didn’t want to know. Still probably cheaper than some problems it has

Just an update on the battery thing. I went to Halfords and got a agm from there. It had a 5 year guarantee. Since being fitted the S/S actually works and all good

Keep your receipt safe, that's the catch if you lose the receipt your warranty is void at Halfords, excellent no quibble warranty only if you have the receipt although paying by credit card is second best as they may keep the transaction on file. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
