BATTERY PROTECTOR - Idea for comment

Seeing as the D3 is so battery heavy and lots of people seem to have problems with the battery going flat.
How about something like this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BATTERY-GUARD-BATTER...5046329008
No experience of one but the principle might help - would need to be a suitable ampage, but i guess lights left on etc might be ok with 20A?
Thoughts?

Not sue its suitable for the D3 I think it operates on higher than the 13.3 volts that is quoted as max volts, I think the disco 3 charges around 14.5 volts..need someone more in the know...

I do not think that this would be much use. They are intended for use in boats and RVs where you can have a fairly high electrical load when the engine is not running. This is usually from refrigerators, water pumps, entertainment systems, etc., often referred to as the domestic load. If you do not have a separate battery to start the engine then these devices can be used to limit how far the battery can be discharged by the domestic systems. When the preset voltage is reached the domestic load is switch off automatically.

If you fitted one to a car you would run the risk of it switching off vital equipment while driving unless you could separate the "domestic" items from the essentials.

13.3v refers to the adjustable, minimum voltage at which you want the device to switch off and is not the maximum voltage applied to the battery which is typically around 14v when charging.
