this suddenly happened Friday evening. No ill effects as yet, but presumably battery isn't charging.
thoughts on where to start looking, its a 2007 XS with 54000 miles.
Thanks in advance

Put a multi meter accross the battery you should be getting around 14.5 volts dc anything less looks like alternator problem.
Cheers

Mine went just after xmas, rang everywhere its a main dealer part only and they were hard to find unless you can find someone to repair it.the car will eventually shut down and you wont be able to start it.I have a number that repairs alternators for landrover in bradford but its a 3 day turnaround.

thanks for the information
battery seems to be holding its charge OK, will look for an auto electrician monday,
er, Diagnostics screen?
I don't have sat nav, doesn't it share that screen?
Oh, in that case its easier with a voltmeter in the 12v output under the radio. This is what I did when I had problems. Any car shop should have them.....

yep alternator gone , i had the same light on when mine died on me a few months ago, best not run the battery flat as it will never re-charge fully and you'll be in for a new battery as well

Thanks everyone as ever for your help, great place this, we could probably sort out Libya as well.
Looks like a new Alternator, are they easy / difficult, do-able by an independent, I am mechanically inept incidentally, but draft a good will..
