Base spec interior
I'm just wanting to know peoples thoughts on the base spec interior.
I'm looking for a Disco a while now and waiting for the right one to come along is starting to drive me a bit insane.
One has come up and it looks very good, it has a list of work of all the usual things that need doing.
But the interior is putting me off, and I know that sounds ridiculous.
It has the normal single CD player, no steering wheel controls, and it doesn't even have the climate controls, so I'm gathering there is no Air con either.
So my question is am I missing out on these things.? Is it worth having the harmon kardon or logic system.
Can it all be replaced or is it too much hassle.?
I know it sounds picky, but the fact that it has all the mechanical things done makes me think I should buy it.

Hi,
I am pretty sure they all have AC. I recently bought an S model and personally I wish I'd hung on to find a better spec. You can swap over a lot of the interior, but to go from manual to memory seats is an issue. I can't help with the cruise control, but I would've thought a new steering wheel and an IID would sort that out.
If it were me I'd wait for a better spec, but I do understand your frustration as I was looking for months!Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

The base spec D4 GS comes with AC already fitted and phone controls on the steering wheel. Climate Controls are on the centre console.
It has a single CD player but there is a memory stick input in the cubby box between the front seats its in the rear of the lid as you lift it up) that will play music through the car's speakers.
It is very easy to retro fit the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel but you will need an IID (or similar tool) to activate them.Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

See this isn't even an s model. It has tan leather seats but the door cards are black, so looks like either or has been replaced at some stage.
It actually looks like its been looked after, most over here in Ireland are absolute wrecks, plus the owner has all receipts for the work, this is the first seller I've spoken too who actually has proof of work.
I might add its a D3 im looking at not the D4, even though I would love a D4.
My head says by a car mechanicly sound, my heart says I want cruise control and a decent radio
I drive an A6 estate at the moment, it is fully loaded and even no i don't use everything in it, I love the stereo system and I use the cruise contol all the time.

If you wanted to replace the radio with an aftermarket one, you are much better off with starting with a basic car.
Cruise control isn't difficult to fit. £100 for switches or steering wheel. £500 for GAP IID
So factor that in, see if its still reasonable.
I think I would want rear park sensors. They would need repair of course

Pete makes a good point RE the GAP IID, it's pretty much essential and if you can factor it in to you budget, it'll allow you to make a lot of changes yourself.
If it has mismatched interior, it may be worth getting it if the price is right and just getting new interior. You can pick up seats at least easily on ebay, so I'd imagine the rest is available too. You'll just struggle getting the memory to work on the seats, lots of threads on this subject, I know as I want them in mine!
The OEM head unit isn't great so as said swapping to an aftermarket one is cheaper and easier with the base head unit.Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

Funny you should say that it actually has rear parking sensors
It also has the fogs in the front bumper.
Its just the interior, it looks a bit lost.. it doesn't look right without all the buttons.

I dont really mind if the seats are manual, its just the radio and climate controls amd cruise control.
Its just under 8k euro so its a lot really for what it is.

A few on here have updated the centre console to the RRS one and it looks great, again easy with a base spec car, as Den and Pete have said a new Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony headunit will give you CarPlay as well.. a big plus !
Are your seats heated or electric? a photo of the centre console would give us a better idea as to what you can add...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Funny how the market has changed, it is 4 years since I sold my 2005 D3 HSE over here in Ireland, it was great spec, had D4 electric seats fitted. Serviced with belts done, everything that needed doing. Sold it for less than €5k as limited interest at the time. Mileage was reasonably high but not lunar. Moved to a D4 at the time.

Yeh the prices of them are bonkers to be honest, but its all good and well asking so much for them but they're not selling.
I've been watching them for months to try to get an idea on prices and whats good or not, some of them are still for sale for 6 months or more.
Some people I've asked about work being done dont have proof of it and they're asking 8.5k and above.

It's about as basic as it gets Joe, and doesn't even have the steering controls I mentioned in my PM.
I suppose you could always add them later, but I think it's always better to start out with the best spec you can find.
These cars will require enough maintenance as they stand without having to faff about with upgrading and as well!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
