Ball Joints Suspension arms and warranties

Hello all,

Just got back from the stealers in me 54 plate TDV6 S 60k service and they have found some slight play in my lower ball joints (ooerr) and suspension arms. Of course they want a kings ransom to put right.

However wise old fox here bought the Approved LR extended warranty (£1000!!!!) having had many trips to the stealers in its 1 st year of ownership I thought this a wise approach.

Unfortunately they have told me Im not covered because it could be wear and tear, so Im going to go medieval on their **** - I will let you know how I get on.

Any hints and tips for ball joints etc, should they start to go at 60k - mainly motorway miles, though it does lugg alot of stuff for my business.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

regular problem, had my lowers ones done at 30k ans they've even developed heavy duty ones for those people who get through them more regularly, so surely that's something to prove they weren't up top the job!

Was it actually LR's warranty or a warranty just sold byu t the dealer?

Hi Bodsy,

It was the full LR Approved warranty. The one they offer you after the 3yrs is up.

Im waiting for the red mist to calm before calling them direct. Its not the cost as such as Im lucky to have 2 relatives who drink oil for breakfast and have nevber had clean hands, they have been salivating to get their mitts on my disco since all they get to play with are volvos and pugs.

Where can you get the heavy duty ones from? LR?.

Im peeuued off with the attitude, am I right or is it wear and tear.

Just a heads up Im the sort of ownr that sends the car in if the ash tray is full!!! LOL

The new design ball joints started off as only available under warranty claims (see the thread link below), so it will be good to know if they are available to purchase now as I need to change mine before the next MOT and don't want to fit the crappy ones again.

They are on very restricted release from LR (and only available through the standard warranty route...not, a parts purchase...sorry Embarassed )

They seem to be coming already fitted to the complete lower arms also.....

I should say that im have a very small steering wheel shimmy on some road surfaces, other than that they are no other symptons to the problem.

We do alot of miles, 25k yearly, so have I been lucky and should perhaps leave them for a bit, certainly until the better ones become afermarket, or is it wise just to change them.

Ive been lucky in my time to drive alot of different cars but this is my 1st LR and 1st Disco and I flippin love it, SWMBO loves it, and the dog loves it.

I just want it not to fall apart!!!

The list of stuff I ve had done almost means Ive had a new car!!!!

Going back to your earlier point of is it wear and tear, if it was classed as wear and tear, why are they replacing them when in std warranty? they don't replace my brake pads (which are wear and tear items) in wty.......

My interpretation of the LR wty, is that it shoudl extend your warranty, NOT give you a different warranty..... I assume it was sold as an extended warranty (to the existing)?

mine have only needed replacing during the 4th year and I believe I now have the upgraded ones.

They did argue with me the wear and tear issue initially but a bit of commonsense prevailed. The second tim ewas only 6 months later so no quibbling Thumbs Up
