The old half heated windscreen on the blink post

Done lots of searching. Most of the info I found is from this forum but none answers the following question.

Non working side is n/s. I've checked fuses, I've checked plugs behind trim on a pillar. Fuses look fine and both plugs look in good condition. Next port of call is maybe a corroded earth. Where does the earth terminate? I'm guessing it's got to be the problem?

Have you done a quick circuit test on the screen half itself with a multimeter?

I build houses for a living. I'm good with all trades including electrics, plumbing, Chippy work, tiling, the list goes on and on. I have a pretty expensive multi metre outside in my van. Just don't know how to use it lol Confused

with the igntion off.

You put it on the 200R setting, touch the 2 probes together and you should get close to 0

You then put the two probes on the 2 w/screen wires (ideally with it disconnected from the car).

You should get a low value. 7 or 16.

If it reads 1 this is bad news.

Reconnect if you disconnected.

turn meter knob to 20V DC --_

Start car, turn on heater.
Measure across the 2 windscreen wires.
Do you get around 14 volts ?

Ok. So just been out to d3 with multi metre. Mine hasn't got 200r on it. Only 200m, 200k or just 200. I put it on the 200 touched the probes together and got 0.00. Went to the car and done what you said on this setting but got 0.00. Then flicked metre to 20v started engine with switch on and got 14v on metre. One thing I noticed tho. When I took trim off a A pillar it was all wet behind there. Maybe the sunroof pipes need a blow out?

Ok must of had metre on wrong setting. So put it on 200 and got reading of 103.6. Touched probs together and got 0.00. Unplugged wires from screen plugs and put probes on each screen plug and got 7.1. Started car plugged back in. Turned screen on and with metre turned to 20v I got 14.1v.

Check what you get on the side that works and compare with the other.

Thinking about it you must disconnect the windscreen (on the 200 setting test) to do the measurement. Otherwise it just reads the other side.

Yes as said in post above I had it on the wrong setting. So basically I've got the right reading up at the screen. So maybe the next thing would be to wire a temp earth feed?

yes. The 200 setting I unplugged both plugs from passenger side and tested the windscreen element so to speak.

From what you have said and tested it all sounds good, and there should be no reason why it won't work. Confused

There is no easy fix.
Try and ignore it. Crying or Very sad

The only thing I can think of is to turn the windscreen on for 5 minutes to let it heat up and then immediately repeat the above tests to see if the resistance has drifted
and ensure the voltage is still available.

Ok Pete. I will try that. If that fails I will try and ignore it. It's the wife's car anyway. Don't know why I'm so bothered. My car's fine lol.
