Avatars and pictures
Ok, I give up
Tried to put an avatar on my profile and even with camera phone on lowest resolution setting, 0.3m pixels, it says file size still to big.
Then tried putting pics into message. Read the instructions and it says photo has to be available on the web, not off your own PC memory. Thought I'd got that sussed as I have an Ovi account linked to my Nokia phone so I added the link in my listing for wheels up for sale but it appears anyone viewing needs to have an Ovi account to view it.
Thought I was 'reasonable' at all this techno' stuff, obviously not
Can I add my own gallery on here and link to pics there? (and if so, how?)

Upload pix to your Gallery (top of page).
When loaded copy the filename data into a message. It has img /img at each end and is listed under photos.
There is also a guide but since half way through typing this can't be arsed to find it

to the original question (which I see has not been resolved) = you need to shrink the picture to 150x100 pixels and then upload it as your avatarSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Have got inserting pics in thread sorted, ta
Still not got an Avatar though - how do you shrink the picture to the necessary size? I've done all sorts of "save as", different formats, changed camera resolution but still all to big
