Auto Transmission Fluid Change |
|
Recently (about six months now) I've experienced drifting revs. Almost the symptoms of a slipping clutch (not the case as its an auto). The disco has covered 125k miles.
After a bit of research I decided to get the auto-box fluid changed. What a difference! Shuffling revs have now gone and pick-up from a standstill has much improved.
I would recommend this procedure to anyone experiencing the same problems.

Did you use an oil pump? How did you get the oil in to the box?
Did you change the sump pan/filter too or just the oil? Single or double flush?
Sorry for so many questions, but I'm about to do mine too 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

It's easy to do guys. Get the car on a ramp, drain the old oil out. Fill with the new (you will need a small pump or you might be able to use a long tube and a funnel) fill with new oil. Go for a drive - try and go through all the gears plenty of times.
Drain and refill and then go for a dirve again, and then refill. Depending on how much you get out and stick back in you might be able to drain and refill more times.
I bout 15 litres of oil and still have about 7 litres left - although I want to do it again and change the filter.
One of the sponsors on the site has a transfusion service to do this for you and claims nearly 100% oil change. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

No such a "transfusion" service here Need to find a best way to do it myself.
After the refill - what is the correct way of checking the fluid level - I've got confused by this two statements in the Fluid Level check:
CAUTION: The gearbox fluid level must only be checked when the temperature of the fluid is between 30
degrees and 50 degrees. The fluid level obtained will be incorrect if the reading is outside this temperature
range.
and in the next couple lines this:
CAUTION: Make sure the transmission fluid temperature is below 30 degrees before starting the fluid
level check.
So what should be the temp in order to do the level check? between 30-50 or below 30? 2013 D4 TDV6 S; Baltic Blue; IID Tool BT
