Hi All,
During the last couple of days I have been having a problem with my auto gearbox that has gotten worse. It started with the gear box being stuck is 'first' gear after a journey of about 8 miles, I moved the gear stick to neutral and back into drive and all was working. The next journey it did the same thing straight away, again neutral and back to drive did the trick. The next couple of times using it all was good, but then it happened again, this time I had to go into manual mode and back again, but it worked again. Now I can't get the auto function to work. The car drives in auto but wont change up, the car works fine in manual. Now I've changed the brake switch, with bad results, auto the same and when I changed to manual amber lights on the dash, suspension fault, HDC fault and park brake fault messages. The suspension seemed to turn of. Limped home, changed the brake switch back to the old one and the car now runs with no light show and suspension works with no messages!! However auto gear box still won't change up. Number 30 fuse is fine, not blown.
It may not be relevant, but when you press the brakes with no lights on the four rear red light clusters light up, is this normal? Also when the lights are on and you brake, the top two red lights do get brighter but not by much, is this normal?
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Pivot linkage on side of gearbox needs stripping and lubrication, search for disco_mikeys write-up.
Don't bother its here
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic31656.html It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Sounds like a bad earth on the rear lights.
Still think that's the cause of the gearbox fault.

All,
Well it turned out to be a faulty break light bulb, nothing more than that. One filament was touching the other causing a short. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
