Auto box holding in reverse on slope

Hello,

On a slope (not a steep hill or off-road), in high range, if the car is in reverse should the autobox hold the car without it creeping forward downhill? The same slope going forwards will cause my D3 to creep forwards (any steeper and it holds the position, and never rolls backwards)?

I'm guessing that the thing best thing to do is not to use the autobox to hold on a slope and to go into nuetral (which is what I do), but I'm surprised reverse won't stop it rolling forwards - perhaps it's just different ratios.

Could this be as a result of a remap - do they affect reverse gear?

Thanks,

John

I've noticed that the car does creep forwards on a slight incline . So I guess the same will apply for reverse

Thanks - very much - however not sure I was clear.

If the car is pointing downhill, and I'm reversing backwards up it, if I take my foot off the gas whilst reversing uphill, it will creep forward (in the opposite direction) and move slowly downhill...

If I do the same thing in forward gear - all's fine.

Thanks,

John

I understand exactly what you mean John, but I've never tried it so can't provide any reassurance. I only use reverse gear to get into my (flat) driveway so perhaps you should just try driving forwards everywhere like the rest of us...... Wink

Is it just me, or do you think Steve is 'hiding' behind the post and adjusting things in desperation with his left hand Shocked Laughing
