auto box gear lever stiff

sorry if this has been asked many times before but a quick use of the search function drove me dafter Laughing

the gear lever in my 06 51k mile SE has suddenly became quite stiff to use. does the gearbox need a flush or is it something else equally expensive?

is it ok to drive like this?

I think its the selector cable, that actually is'nt a cable but a rod.............Let me have a look

parts ordered as per the attached link above which should be arriving today. car booked in tomorrow for this to get sorted and a wee oil change for the summer and a pesky MOT Sad
