ATAS 120

Has anyone mounted an ATAS 120 on a D3/4 ?

I would be interested in experience / pictures advice.

Cheers

Have the same radio so hopefully he could comment.

I am thinking off bolting it to the ladder with a mirror mount something similar.

maybe something like this.

Hi Cold_n_Wet !!

I think your mounting position is a good one. Thumbs Up

I have done my installation in the other end.
From bonnet pointing forward " Flat Bar " with drilled hole for PL-259 fitting.
My antenna is not ATAS-120 but Diamond SD-330, works just fine on all HF Bands. Very Happy
Have Ferrite beads in both ends of Coax, and Separation Cables ...
Rig is IC-7000 and small tuner IT-100 from LDG.

I will post Pictures in my Gallery Smile

Hope to hear You on the Bands

Regards

Helloo Cold´nWet.

I have been thinking about the same thing..

My brother made a bracket, that he mounted on the
diagonal support in the radiator..

Just an angled steelbar, that protruded
through the "wanes" in the grill..
And when the antenna wasn´t in use, a rubber
towbar-cup to protect it.

Worked quite good, but You had to take away the
mount (SO-239), when You wanted to take the grill off..

I have the sister-car, RRS, and is thinking about
making an adaption of the "extralight"-bracket
some forummembers have been making, that
screws onto the frame in the bottom of the grill.

To get best performance out of the ATAS, which is a very good
antenna in my opinion You must get is up a bit,
so the best would be to get the bracket out through the top
of the radiator.

But of course, if You have a ladder, then that is the given
position, high, but not too high, and free from the car.

Make sure that the ladder is well and truly grounded to the
chassis..

Best regards, and hope to hear You in the ether..

Guys

Thanks for the advice, I had considered the front of the car but want to protect the antenna as much as possible, and the roof is out while moving, I could but a extra so239 on the side of the roof rack for when I am stationary.

Funny I also considered the ICOM 7000 and the same tuner, But the choice fell on the Yaesu in the end as it had the ATAS.

Grounding the ladder has been on my mind, but getting some braiding through the rubbers between the tail gate and body could be interesting.

Glen.

I have read somewhere here that people,
when installing CB-radios in the D3, lead the
antenna cable down on the side of the tailgate,
and let it go in to the car via the rear lightcluster..

I have seen here in Sweden, at Clasohlson,
a company that recently set up shop even in britain,
have somthing like a "mountingfoot", it´s a self adhesive black
little plate, about 1,5cm x 1,5cm, with holes for a cablestrap
that You can put along the inside of the d-pillar/tailgate to secure the cable-s..

I guess that Halfords or similar places c o u l d have that little foot..

Hehe,

I was shoping at Clas ohlson yesterday Thumbs Up

The ladder is connected to the upper tail gate, and I will take the cabe behind the numberplate light / door handle, inside the tail gate, throught the top rubbers and down the rear post, I think this is the neatest routing.
