Ashtray keep poping out! - Power socket question..

Hey guys,

The bloody ash tray keeps opening and won't stay shut. Can I just remove the whole thing?

Do all D3s have the ashtry in the middle or does mine have a smokers pack fitted?

Next question - Whats the difference in output between the power socket on the left and the cigarette lighter on the right?

Can i plug the kids ipods and DS into either of them?

Yes you can remove the ashtray panel (which is a smokers pack) and replace it with the non smokers pack which has a little shelf where the ashtray is and two power points rather than one power/ one fag lighter.

I think the whole panel is about £14 and takes about 20 minutes to change with minimal tools! 2014 D4 XS

Brillant thanks for the tip. Just one further question, do you know of anywhere that I can buy one from other than the local stealer?

Is the part simply called a "non-smokers pack"?

OK, How much are we talking for the smokers pack?

Do you have some fitting instructions for the non-smokers pack?

£9.80 from Nick @ Yeovil last time I got one (had exactly the same trouble as you)

To do a swap: H trim off, I think you need to take out the hevac control, and possibly part of the centre console too. 7 screws max, 10 min job.

My never-used (not even for coins or toffee-papers!!) ashtray popped out during the night last night (at least it was unexpectedly OUT this morning Shocked ) and refuses to stay popped back. How did that happen? Wear and tear it ain't - it's only ever opened when I catch it fiddling about with 12v plugs Evil or Very Mad. Disuse atrophy more like - that's the term to describe your shrinking w!ll!e when you're old Laughing

Anyway - thanks for the info, Rob, I will check Nick out for a nonsmokers' pack.

((Yes we do smoke, SWMBO and I, but the LR ashtray is nowhere near big enough Sad so we have a Renault removable cup-ashtray in one of the cup holders (we don't drink-and-drive Whistle ))

And I DO need an extra 12v socket (well, FOUR, actually...)

Andy 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
