Anyone got a 2013 model Swift/Sterling |
|
Hi
Just canvassing experience on a few things, so wondered if anyone here had a 2013 Swift or Sterling?
Had our Sterling Eccles Sport 586 for about 6 weeks and its had more than its share of problems, so was wondering if other folks have similar issues?
After an appalling handover experience at the dealer which culminated in us leaving 2.5 hrs after our handover appt without the caravan since it was still in the bay being valeted...grrrr we took delivery and I was hoping for a trouble free ride as its brand new.
Trip 1.
Back to the dealer as it was leaking under the sink in the vanity unit in bathroom
Had it back 2 days before....
Trip 2.
Door release for releasing door from stay on the side of the van, just pulled off in our hand. Broken.
Front Hekki when opened on Saturday morning to let some air in, rather than pivoting on its hinge - it cracked right through from side to side and was left wafting in the breeze. We had to call a mobile caravan fitter to come out and make it safe to tow...ie tape it all down.
Also the in board water pump is very, very noisy and vibrates through the front of the van.
Does anyone else think the water pump is noisy?
Any similar experiences on 2013 Swift/Sterlings?
Waiting to here from dealer after I dropped it back yesterday....there was talk of 2 weeks to get the warranty claim authorised and possible 6 weeks delivery on the Hekki.....if that turns out to the the case I'll be talking to Swift at the highest level...as a brand new van off the road for that length of time right across the holiday period is of no use to me at all.
Cheers
Andy

Our Senator is just over four years old, (last of the well made) after hearing numerous problems with all makes of vans we are reluctant to replace it, better the devil you know

hi
We have a 2013 bessacarr cameo 645 made by swift. Love the van, especially the fixed bed. have a look on the swifttalk forum, run by swift for owners, very useful info on there.

Onboard water pump in our Swift was a nightmare - sooooooo noisy, especially at night when using the bathroom. I thought it was a "feature" of onboard pumps and then we got a Bailey - so much quieter. I guess the Swift design team never tried to live with their onboard pump. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

It's the mounting of the pump that causes the problem. They're usually too tight; try loosening the mount a bit, and check that the rubbers have a bit of movement in them.

Thanks I will try that when I get it back
Dealer workshop called and said the pump was normal for an inboard pump and I was probably just used to the older pump on the barrel. I find it hard to believe that they are all that noisy.
Still waiting to hear on availability of new roof light

the build quality on all the newer vans generally is pretty poor
in the drive to get costs down quality has definately suffered , im told that the bonus ,price work that the factory uses to get productivity up just means they are thrown together now.
i had a 2004 abbey before and it was very solid ,now got a 2009 eldiss and its nowhere near as solidly put together MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

On our old Abbey (made by swift) you could hardly hear the onboard pump (the one in the onboard tank)
sounds like a pump mounting issue

I bought a new Stirling Europa 2011, the build quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Wheel arch fell off, window blind fell to pieces, one panel not sealed correctly so damp got in, shower door fell off.
Apart from that its alright lol.
I liken it to my D3, it has its niggles and it has a warranty.
From my limited experience it seems that Eldis are quite nicely put together but pricey
I guess you get what you pay for, mine is kind of mid range I suppose but they do all seem to use the same kit of parts. Welcome "Lola"

Errrr anything out of the Swift group????
Would we buy another one??
Let say hell would freeze over first.
OK admittedly this is a Saturday night and we have enjoyed some decent wine1
Bought a Swift Jewel in September 2010.
Used for one weekend.
Next time used was Feb 2011 at the Caravan show at NEC
Shower in bits, fire not working, oven door fallen off, toilet not working/leaking etc etc. Swift at the NEC wanted us to make an appointment at the caravan show. Now in a loud voice on their stand at the NEC we told them in no uncertain terms that we were WORKING at the show and not hanging around their stand to meet one of their sales excecutives.
FAST forward nearly 3 years, despite many complaints about warranty issues, despite getting it serviced as per Swift schedule. About 1,200 miles after the second year service or less then 5,000 miles in total mileage from new the bolts holding the override brakes to the chassis disappeared leaving just one bolt attaching the caravan to the tow vehicle.
NOW just imagine if that last bolt had disappeared on the motorway? CARNAGE? Insurance claim and counter claim??
Swift do not want to know about SAFETY CRITICAL bolts going AWOL
Swift dealers do NOT want to know bout warranty issues with Swift caravans they have not sold. WHY? Swift will wriggle out of any warranty issues going.
At less then 3 years old, less then 5,000 miles we have sold that Swift caravan at a loss just to get rid!
Swift? We will not recommend! Their after sales service/care/warranty we would not recommend!
OK have had a glass or two of wine but we would suggest you avoid new models of Swift like the plague.
Are we unhappy with Swift caravans??
Brendan
