Anyone fish Carron reservoir Stirling? |
|
Hi,
Up near Denny with the tintent and getting very confused where to do a spot of fly fishing Too many options...
Loch Drunkie looks very nice but not much access?
Sort of fancy the Carron reservoir if anyone has any advice?? Bank fishing from the road do you need to wade? Or may be the dam wall at the west end?
Any words of wisdom welcomed Transit! 2019

Lots of options around you mate Carron reservoir is good Brownie fishing, I haven't been up for a few years but it was boat fishing only then 8) Permits from the last house on the right (coming up from the Denny end) theres an outbuilding where they'll sort you out. Small dark, traditional wet flies are usually favourite Also worth a visit is the North Third reservoir fishery, really nice setting and some good rainbows 8) Tight lines!

Thanks Biffysun
I had heard about North third, as the guy running it hired out float tubes, which I thought may be worth a try
But it is closed waiting on dam wall repairs.
Thanks for the info on the wets, will give them a try

There is a Forestry Commission road used as a Forest Drive around about half of the shoreline - you can get to it in a Morris Minor never mind a D3! Contact FC about permits. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Hi
Did the forest drive, £2 well spent with good views would recommend the drive, not many places to park up near the waters edge, full of tents and bonfires already, one spot did look nice with some movement on the surface, if only I had bought a ticket first could have had an hour....
Had an hour on the 'old river Forth' there is a free section by the Prudential building upto the stone bridge, slow by the pru, more perch than trout? Shallow and fast by the bridge, had a small brownie there.
Tried Carron res late yesterday afternoon before the rain started, new waders 8) my fishing still no one else was catching either..... Mushroom risotto for tea then...
There's always another day to go fishing Transit! 2019
