Fully agree with LT... everyone who has owned a D3 or D4 will fondly recall all the times they wanted to cart around 7 adults and were able to in relative comfort, or even just the other day my FIL mentioned he wanted to get rid of a old bed frame and mattress, I said let's chuck the whole lot in the back of the Disco now and get it done, within 30 minutes we were lobbing it into the tip, one journey, sorted.

The big downside to me with the D3 and D4 are the snapping cranks. Just knowing they're a significant point of failure and you can't do much to avoid it if it's going to happen hangs over you somewhat even though I'd put myself firmly in the 'just drive it and enjoy it and try not to worry about it' camp.

Am happy to take that risk with my current D3, however the D4 5.0 V8 is hugely appealing to me if I ever had to replace it, all the power you could ever want in this vehicle and good durability, retaining all the practical advantages of the D3/4 body shape. No ULEZ or low-emissions zone charges currently which is more of an administrative relief than a cost-saving consideration. Rare car. Personally don't really care about MPG, I'm not doing mega-miles. I'd buy the V8 D4 and run it forever and ever and ever.

As LT says, niche market for them but it is there.

You can stick the 3.6 in a D3.
Don’t expect change from 10 grand though for it to be done.

My old D3 with bas map, decat, intercooler upgrade and egrs blanked could keep a mates 8 speed D4 honest up to motorway speed.

The crank never worried me, and with the oil pump being changed for the latest design at its belt change.
I wasn’t worried about that either.
The turbos on the 3.6 are £3600 to change both.
A 2.7 tdv6 engine can be bought for £1000.

Don’t understand why anyone would pay the D4 Jap import prices. I had a look previously £24-30k!!!! Is anyone actually buying at that money given a newer better spec RRS can be had for £10-12k.

I am. Im looking at a Jap. import V8 D4 Thumbs Up
