Have you checked the MOT history?
Nothing major but lots of bits and bobs which would suggest to me that its hardly been cherished over the years.
Just my opinion.
Good luck

Yeah I had a quick gander at the MOT history, nothing stood out as major but I agree it probably hasn't been cherished.
The garage has informed me that they have just done the cambelt and an EGR valve.

I’m not sure, but I will enquire about it. For my own learning, when would this be expected to be changed? Or is that a how long is a piece of string question?

In another thread Flack said:-
Quote:I wont do any D3 belts now without changing the oil pump, they are all suspect.
and Disco_Mikey said:-
Quote:I always advise a new pump when doing belts. Not worth the risk, as it will effectively make the car uneconomical to repair if it does break
both are well respected by LR owners.
Search here for "Oil pump" and spend a few hours reading up.

On a proper service schedule cambelt should have been changed no later than Jan 2016. Recent replacement would be seriously overdue, unless it is the second one. Chris

£10000! That’s a lot isn’t it, or have prices gone up that much.

I paid £8000 for a similar car - spec, colour & mileage with FSH just over a year ago. Maybe they have gone up that much in a year… Cheers,

Yeah second hand car market has gone through the roof at the moment - my BMW 3 series is worth more than it should be so with a growing family it’s time to get shot of reliability and economy for a Landy

Would that be because one thing sticks out? Or because of multiple failures?

Has the oil pump been changed ever?
If not that's reason enough to walk away IMHO.

I will phone and ask them to check the vehicle history if it has been done. I haven’t seen it in person yet so haven’t been able to scrutinise it.
I am compiling a list of stuff from the forum to look out for when I do go and finally see it.
But as has been stated, the MOT history is a tad worrisome. I am looking for something I can work on myself as I haven’t had the chance to work on anything for the last 8 years or so and am itching to get back to it now I’ve moved back home to Devon and out of Manchester!
