Another EPB problem or is it? |
|
Hi guys
I have a rather odd problem , i have the squeal occasionally and a short squeal most times, but it works at the moment so until i get some spare time to adjsut it itll have to wait. Anyway, after driving off a few meters or so i get a message up saying EPB applied when i start to turn. Is this the EPB or would it be connected to the rotary coupler which i need to change anyway? Sounds daft that its connected to the steering wheel tho.
Any ideas?
Cheers

rotary coupler causes all sorts of errors. I'd suggest you get the screamer adjusted, otherwise you'll end up having to get a new actuator as well! and then see what happens when the coupler is done (I assume you're having it done soon...? Bodsys Brake Bible

Is the recall still available? as i was going to do it myself. Its an MY05. And about the park brake, I adjusted it about 6 months ago. would it be needing replacing? and how would i tell if the actuator is to far gone?

I found a more successful adjustment of the EPB was achieved by removing the disc and empting the brake dust from inside the drum and cleaning the shoes. As every time the brake is applied the dust is getting compressed between the shoe and the drum inner. This results in two problems, a true actuation is not taking place as the shoe may be slightly offset in the drum resulting in poor contact thus having the knock on effect that the controller thinks apply more pressure, a vicious circle ensues and the actuator starts to squeal. Secondly the dust recompresses onto the shoe friction surface making it lumpy and uneven. Remember to follow the guide and take all necessary safety precautions regarding dust and vehicle support.
I also have a Rotary coupler fault, anyone know where I can purchase one reasonably priced?

I have just experienced my first EPB Scream/Squeal/Screech.
It only happens when transmission is in LOW range not HIGH range.
Why only in low range?
Legal question wrt EPB.
I always understood that the Parking/Hand brake had to be able to deaccelerate at a rate of 8 feet per second per second (25% efficiency) without the use of electrics, hydraulics or pneumatics to apply the brake. Hence the use of Reverse Acting Spring Brakes on LGVs.
If this is true how does the EPG system comply?
Car or is it "Self Propelled Computer" booked into independent garage.
Fault was stretched cables, adjusted and system recalibrated.
Anticipate cables may need to be changed, if they stretch again (6 years old). D3 HSE Diesel Auto 2005 Zambezi Silver.
