Another engine Ticking post; but a different tick
I have checked high and low for a post with the same ticking noise that I have. I’m at my wits end. I can stumble around a land rover but there is loads that I don’t know. I’m guessing this might be the hydrolic lifters but I’m prob wrong. It’s there at random times, cold or hot engine, air on or off. The noise is the same speed even if I rev it up. I notice the car running rough at some points during long runs and it runs rough around 1200rpm when the ticking is there at start up, usually lasts for A short while or so. I have only seen one video on utube with the same noise so I’m guessing others have seen it. The bottom line is Disco mickey is most likely going to fix it (once I’ve asked) just trying to make his life easier any comments appreciated

Disco mikey diagnosed a spun shells on the lower crank if that makes sense, 2011 with only 42000 miles on the clock, anyway the cut a shut of it was £4.5K+ vat for the half block and fitting or £10k+vat and fitting for a recon engine. I only had it for 8 weeks or so and I still owe £13k on the car so its a bit of a financial car crash for me and I dont have access to 10k. The car is currently at Copart salvage for sale, (reserve is £7k) if it doesn't go I'll park in in the drive and use it as a planter. 25 years of owning the green badge cars but I have to say its a bad day that I'm finally done with them. A car manufacturer that cant make a reliable engine, really! surely its not that hard, sorry rant over. There is nothing else out there that inspires me in my eyes I love them, Wife still has the vogue but it looks like a pcp deal on a Fiat for me. (unless anyone can tell me their engines are worse?). Good luck disco4 drivers may the big end bearings keep on spinning!the wife drove it now its a skip

Sounds like a rock and a hard place to be but the lesser of the evils to me must be going for the short block including fitting. At 42k it's still a relatively young car with bags of life left in it. It's going to be a financial good hiding what ever way you go. I agree with you about the unreliability of the engine, all these years the shells have been known to spin and nothing done about it from the manufacturer (FORD). Never trusted them as a car manufacturer since an early bad experience with a warranty claim many years ago, some of us have long memories.

IMHO the frequency is too low for a shell.......
more or less 0,5 - 0,66 sec frequency -> 30 - 40 rpm..... (from the video)
idle is 750-780 rpm.......
Note the oscillation of the fan, same frequency of the noise....
IMHO fan related.

It's not the same noise as in the video. Can't be heard at idle, only when the revs are up a bit...My D3 Build Thread

Sorry this video is not the final problem, by the time I got ready to sort it out the ticking the engine was toast. The advice I was given was to move the car on. If I cant get 6K you are right I'll most likely need to get an engine or block. Disco mickey I need to square you for having a look, I'll drop you a line.the wife drove it now its a skip
