Another diff lock question
Ok so I'd like to start off by saying I'm excited to have just agreed to buy a 61 plate discovery 4 HSE SDV6 , just a quick question I'm not bothered about the rear Cdl but do all discovery 4s have the CDL standard like the 3s might seem a stupid question but when I was playing around with the terrain response in low range watching the 4X4 screen the usual unlocked padlocks didn't come up is that icon only on the 3 s .
Thanks

All 3's and 4's are the same, with an auto locking centre differential, and an optional locking rear differential.

Yes thats what i couldn't seem to work out why even in low range the padlock icon didn't come up even open does it need to be in any particular mode apart from low range and mud ruts to see ?
This is all i seemed to see was a screen like this even in low range

It wont always lock until the electronics detect some slip. I think it will lock straight away in rock crawl.

Ok so do some have the unlocked padlock symbol up permanently which lock under slip and others have no padlock symbol that only appears on slippage ?

Mine has the rear locker fitted and it doesnt lock unless its really slipping. Doesnt matter what setting its in. I tried rock crawl, going round in circles on loose gravel etc. but it would not lock. That made me worry it wasnt working so i headed straight for the mud and it locked as soon as i started to loose traction. As soon as i select any option in terrain response i get 2 green locks appear then they go red when they lock. Hope that helps.

Here's a bit of a blonde but related question.
What is the difference between a locking rear diff and an E diff?
When I put mine into TR I get central and rear diff showing up on the screen
but looking under the rear, I can't see that I have an E diff.
Just curious.

Im sure some show on up the TR even if its not fitted and never turn red. Have a look on top of the rear diff through the rear NS arch and you should see the wires going to the motor on the diff.

That's the thing ST53VEN, I can't see that I have an E diff but
centre and rear diffs show up on the screen in TR when I would have
not expected the rear diff to show up without an E diff.
Will have a better nose around under the old girl at the weekend.

Yeah its a bit miss leading when it shows up on vehicles that dont have it installed. You would think it would only show when the the vehicle knows its installed. If you search on google images you should see what you are looking for.
See below locking and non locking rear diffs. Item number 4 is what your looking for.
