I had actually given it a fair bit of pressure and a bit of smack with the ratchet whilst tightening it initially, the terminals were Ali-slipped also so no dry friction to stop them sliding down, which is making your undersized ones sound even more bizarre Procrastination is the thief of time!!

Update, if anyone really cares
Didn't use the D3 today as I had to take my sisters car into the garage for her, so the new battery has been on charge with the C-tek all last night and all day today, lifted the bonnet expecting to see the light showing green/charged, it's still Amber and charging??
Checked the nav info screen, which last night suggested it was at 12v.......
It now says 11.5 v Sake, I am confused now?
What should a new battery actually read???
Not the 14.5 I see when the engine is running I assume?
Sorry for the dumb ass questions, electrickery has never been my strong point
Thanks peeps Procrastination is the thief of time!!

I assume the cars not gone to sleep and the doors are unlocked whilst yer charging all this while
hence the reason why its still using the battery power. I would just drive the thing for 30 mins or so tomorrow

Errrr, car is locked up and I assume deep asleep, is this relevant to the battery actually charging whilst the leads are fitted directly to the terminals, as in the car cannot interupt or stop the charging process can it???

Just to add to my confusion I put the old battery on charge about 2 hours ago, it's now showing fully charged , (green on the c-tek) whereas the new one that I had on charge all day and night, still wasn't showing charged tonight????
What's that all about? Procrastination is the thief of time!!

The new battery that was on charge but not showing as charged, was it connected to the car or disconnected? Presumably smart chargers monitor the battery voltage and/or current flowing to switch to float from boost???
If the battery's connected then perhaps because of current draw from the vehicle then the charger cant get to the final float stage?

Hi nick,
Yes the new battery was still connected to the car, as suggested I will just drive the car tomorrow and see what it's like when I get to work, how tedious can fitting a battery become Procrastination is the thief of time!!

That's great, thanks for the info
On getting to work this morning it showed 12v, does this mean I have just bought a battery that's only half full , so to speak, or is it feasable it was in a state of partial discharge, and with use it will achieve fully charged soon??
Many thanks, Nick Procrastination is the thief of time!!

I checked my battery this morning - doesn't seem to be as old as I thought it might be as it is a 950A 90Ah job. Does anyone know how I can find it's age? Or at least the oldest it could be? Mark.
