Another or the same auto heater issue??

I am having a problem with the auto heater, hot feet cold every where else. I know some has had this raised before, can you point me in the right direction please. I called my dealer and all I got was bring it in a we will look at it. When I said that I had read on this forum there was a software upgrade for this issue they said there was not and not to belive anything that was said unless it came direct from Land Rover. The car came from James Edwards of Brock near Prston. I go tthe impression they reelly did not give a damn. I asked them to checkwith L/R technical and call me back. As you have guessedthey have not. I've just had this software update done by my dealer - your dealers wrong it does exist - sounds like they dont know what they are doing. The update really does work - heating system is much improved and not noticed red hot feet anymore.

See the following thread for more info.

With respect, I think I would react the same way that your dealer did. Stuff gleaned off forums won't necessarily command immediate respect.....

Might I suggest that you go slightly better armed?

Call them back; tell them you are concerned about poor heating/ventilation performance; tell them you are aware, as you have already told them, that there is a software update available to deal with this; finally, tell them that if they are confused/circumspect/just plain crass, that they should refer to TSB LA412-001 (dated 17th February).

Finally, what's with the LR3 bit - that reserved for our colonialist cousins... Wink

I used the slightly dippy but nice approach and said 'I don't want to tell you your job but I just thought this might help.' I was interrogated about where the info came from and tried to ignore the question at first by talking over him about the problems but I cracked in the end!! There are so many of us that have experienced this now, we can't all be wrong!

Two additional points:

It does no harm to mention DISCO3 - and let the dealer go browse when they have a chance; they will see that there is some very sound information available; second, you are able to subscribe to the Land Rover GTR website and get the information yourself.......if the upshot is that you are telling things to the dealer that they don't know (and that wouldn't be odd, as it has happened to me too), then they ought to be eternally grateful and treat you as a learned customer.

The sales people, generally, know far less about the car than the owners; service managers may also be less well versed in the operation of the vehicle than the owner - worth considering when communicating with either...

Agreed - Disco3 seems to carry quite considerable clout now. When is Martin taking over Land Rover with his trusty team? Perhaps we could all put some pennies in the kitty to help.

I had to tell Harwoods in Sussex about the upgrade number. Immediate response was how did I know this information!

However they were very good about it and are lending me a car on monday so they can do the upgrade (they seem to have loan cars available at 7 days notice).

All this and the car didn't come from them. They have been excellent.

Next time mine goes in (if it goes in Rolling Eyes ) - they're gonna spot the great big disco3.co.uk sticker in the rear window...

GS Know all about DISCO3.CO.UK

Get a site keyring, and get preferential treatment Wink

I find that the chaps that book you in, and deal with the customers are not technically trained, they are more aligned to customer service and generally being nice and pleasant to people. They are a likeable bunch.

The mechanics "down below" probably know all about the issues and the fixes, they are genuinely good mechanics, but they are kept away from the customers and general public. Occasionaly, if you are really lucky, you will see one pop up for food or something. But don't make any sudden moves, or you will scare him and will be off like a rat down a pipe Wink

Have you noticed that they have put a great big RRsport poster over the viewing window! I think they must be genuinely shy down there.

I called my dealer again today James Edward of Brock nr Preston and asked if they could look at the TSB LA412-001 (dated 17th February). It might throw some light onto my problem. I got a call back (shocked) at 1330 to say they had read the item and now would like me to bring my car in next week. Its booked into the garage for next Wednesday where they are going to lend me a car called a freelander?? what ever that is ..whislt they attend to my problem.
I will update the forum after that day fingers crossed!! Rolling Eyes

I am expecting to take delivery of my D3 next week. Is there any protocol I can get the dealer to print out which will show whether all the latest updates reported here have been applied?

John, my Service Team lead was extremely helpful, and came out and showed me the raft of printouts from TestBook - as I booked it in he was slightly surprised I knew about TB. Seen the poster! Very Happy
Am dropping in today - should be interesting - this time just to clarify the V5C on the trade-in - it's come back to me for some reason (after the reg from it went on retention) and I want to make sure the DVLA know I've got rid!
