Received my renewal with LV insurance for January for one of our cars with no changes reported.
It was £254 for the renewal compared with last years £287 Shocked Shocked

This new law that kicks in next year seems to be working....for some.
My daughters renewal has nearly doubled with Admiral even though she now has another years NCB - although she was in an accident but already classified as non fault by Admiral.
She will be doing the rounds on the comparison websites, whereas i will simply renew.

I've been doing the comparisons for years, but LV more or less dammit come in about the best. I'll stick with them even if they are a few pounds dearer as they were exceptionally good on a couple of claims many moons back.

But as the saying goes, the're only as good as the last claim.

That's a big increase for your daughter, just thought I'd jump in to mention, how long ago was the claim? It may be treated as Fault until the costs are recovered from the 3rd Party, so if recent and ongoing this may be why... Worth asking Smile

Loved it, wife in her car, hit my stationary, unattended Disco in the driveway. Had to do an insurance claim.

When it came to renewal, we were both with the same company, Direct Line and similar premiums, hers went up £8, mine with her as a named driver went up £70. Phoned them up, but they wouldn’t budge, in fact when I mentioned moving from them, the Tele Op at renewals simply told me to go ahead.

I searched around and went via top cash back site to Confused price comparison site and got it £100 cheaper, plus £42 from cash back and a £20 Halfords voucher from Confused.

Couldn’t make it up unlike Direct Lines premiums.

Direct line increased my insurance 3 weeks after I took it out by nearly £100, I questioned why and they said they had quoted wrong and cancelled the policy because I refused to pay the extra, I went to LA and they where £50 cheaper than DLs first quote.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

They used to be quite good, but now ….

Wouldn’t mind, but I had all the cars and house insurance with them. Now it’s down to one car and that will go next time.

Plus on the renewal they said if you’re not happy with the premium phone them, which is what I did, but it got me absolutely no where, so what’s the point?

Finally, I remember having to ask the guy five or six times to repeat what he said. I simply couldn't understand him. That’s no good when your answers influences your cover or lack of it. He really gave the impression that he couldn’t care less.

I hate doing insurance. We have a lot with A-Plan, includng the house, which needed high contents cover and our business and the property. They are super easy to deal with. Sometimes they are cheaper other times more expensive but not by much and the small difference is worth it for the ease of dealing with them.

However, in order to put my eldeset (21) daughter on my insurance to drive my car, I had to move to Admiral Multicar. Not cheap but the cheapest means to do it, but its an introductory offer so we'll see what happens next year! It means her Abarth, her sisters Beats UP! and my XC90 are on one policy. SWMBO's car and the Camper van are still with A-Plan. SWMBO will not move from A-Plan becuase of their customer service.

One company I will never use again is Endsleigh, through Compare the Market! Shafted me on my Spider's renewal and then when I sold it asked for ridiculous amounts of proof that I had sold it when I cancelled the policy! Twisted Evil

Continuing this annual saga - has anyone used esure insurance for their car? Also, I always thought you had to be connected to farming/land in some way to use NFU Mutual but apparently not. Are they any good?
Also, any thoughts on the best breakdown service to use which include full recovery and just about everything else they can offer.

Thanks,

Terry

I have just renewed again with A Plan for defender and RRS, great service as always.

I use the AA for recovery, some companies have a car age limit, so be careful if you have an old car

Thanks Dave. I'm actually with A Plan now for 2 cars and house but they are coming up a little expensive on one car.

Any insurañce company is only good when it comes to paying out claims, although I don’t have motor insurance with the NFU I do have property insurance and I can only give 10/10.
I have made the mistake of going with the cheapest and have deeply regretted it with my wife’s Mini, although comparatively quick it was not until I came to replace the vehicle that I realised how much it had been undervalued and when I came to replace the vehicle they hit me with loss of NCB that I had paid extra for protection.
The claim could have been 10x higher as 5 minutes earlier it was parked in a crowded supermarket car park.

 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

https://www.driverguardian.co.uk/ - they only do full bells and whistles cover and include EU for 30 days - I've not had cause to use them yet, but they covered my Disco 3 with 150k miles for £124 quid,

They promise to reduce on renewal and to be fair it was £105 last July, and to boot after I got rid of the Disco they transferred the remaining policy onto my 2008 Freelander 2 within about 2 hours via email without any cost for the remainder of the policy - not had cause to use the service yet, but so far the cost and customer service has been great

Be careful with Esure. See this thread and the post by SocialRover (Page 3 post 9) about the replacement cost offered by Esure.

I now see why everyone goes slightly mental as renewal time as this is doing my head in with so many choices and permutations . I can see what I’ve always stuck with A Plan even though they may be a few quid extra but they take all the flack if there is a claim. I quite like the look of Driverguardian though.

This year for the first time in a while I’ve stayed with the same insurer. Renewal from Aviva was on a par with new policies on price comparison sites.
