Amp has lost its oomph

I posted a month or so ago but not getting any sound from the car stereo:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic29618.html

It seems that it was a faulty amp, so I sourced a new one on eBay for £41. Took this to a local car radio shop and they fitted it for £40, so everything is back to normal for less than a century of outlay. Except...

I used to listen to CDs with the volume set to 12, which elicited a response in the previous post about this being a bit low. However, this produced a more than satisfactory volume (and I like to think I am a bit of basshead, as I have a monster sub for the home, but that's by the by).

If I listen to the new amp at 12, with the same EQ settings (treble at the middle, bass a couple of clicks above middle and sub at default setting), the whole setup sounds quiet and there is virtually no bass kick. Even turning the bass or volume up produces no thump in the kidneys.

Is it possible that I had a more powerful amp before and didn't realise it? The car is ex-LR and came with a few unadvertised extras (side tubes, mudflaps, lamp guards), so maybe the stereo was upgraded? The "new" amp from eBay was previously in a 2005 FFRR and says "Logic 7" on it. It is identical in size and shape to the previous one, apart from having a black top cover as opposed to stainless steel on the earlier one.
