I feel pretty much the same way about the Evoque. The styling is not exactly my taste, but I won't swear it off until I feel it's sub-par compared to other Land Rovers. I didn't like the D3/LR3 when it came out. I sat high and mighty in my D1 thinking it was a minivan with a center-diff. Turns out I was a bit wrong there. 
I still don't care for the LR2/Freelander because I feel it is less than capable, and was created to fill a niche. I suspect the Evoque will be similar, but I'm reserving judgement until it's been around longer and more is known about it. Either way, my personal tastes are unimportant. If it keeps money in the bank so they can keep building trucks I love, then more power to them.
