Hi Guys

I would like to order a diode pack to put in my bottom draw for the inevitable day of failure! Has anyone got any definitive part no/place to order from yet?

I'd be interested in a group buy?

A great guide by the way Flack Thumbs Up

I've used www.woodauto.com some times to completely rebuild ad unobtanium-made YLE10113 alternator (MM A127 from a RRC).
However, regarding the D3 alternator it might (I underline it) possible to swap rectifier with that of th Ford Focus and Volvo one.
External unit appearance is different, BUT:
-Both are Denso
-Both put up the same output (150a)
-Both are from the same family (I mean, 104210****)
The D3 V8 one is 1042103690 and 1042103691
The Focus one is 1042103521
Even the regulator plug looks the same

According to that guy (see video)
#!
the rectifier is the same for all the alternator families, the only thing that changes is the battery post (M6, M8, and the length of it). BUT you can swap the terminal from your old unit into the new one (as he says in the video)
The only thing to check is if the rectifier's dimensions are the same and it phisically fits
in theory going from that big family of alts
the regulator could be Denso OEM 1266003640 or VRG47325 (from woodauto). Will not fot as the plug exits in a different angle, but maybe internals could be swapped.
and the rectifier diode pack RTF40173 from woodauto too
You can see it in ebay as well, even with the video together
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-C-MAX...23265bdf01
The dimensions, appearance and layout look nearly the same as the one in Flack's pdf-

Some more news,
looking for Transpo IN6349 I found the Denso OEM equivalent
which turns out to be 1266003490. ONLY FOR V8s!!!!!
and googling that code there's somebody out there who stocks it

Cheers from Spain and Happy new Year to all of you
So, anybody taking the risk?
I will as soon as mine fails.
Cheers from Spain and Happy new Year to all of you

Robert

Bodsy

As far as I am aware the only difference is what make of alternator is fitted to the car, you need the number from the unit, this one was a Denso unit.

The diodes where sourced locally to me, and I was told that they are not normally supplied to the public, but if there is enough intrest I could start a postal service in supplying them as they don't weigh much so postage can't be that much.

Flack Thumbs Up

Hi Flack,
Can you supply at least part numbers of the rectifier?
Ampage output?

thanks for the write up Flack, if I can find a source for the diode pack I might look at doing a preventive changeout before failure (258,000km and original as far as Im aware)

personally I wouldn't bother with preventive changeout

You have to be careful not to overheat the diode pack if soldering is required.
You could end up doing more damage than good + waste time and money

I have done loads of these and never yet had any damage to the diodes, the wires are far enough away from the diodes so not a problem.

Just some updated details of the diode replacement:

- My 2017 denso diode had only 5 bolts not 6 as noted
- Not clear to me on my original reading of Flacks write-up was there are 3 nodes/clusters around the diode where the wires join. There are 4 wires in each node being 2x from the diode and 2x from the main alt. body ... they arc up and meet. You can just snip them at the top of the arc ... it’s not better than using a dremel .... just a different way to describe it.
- when I removed the rectifier I first cut it off the diode (better access) then dremmeled a groove for replacement
- my rectifier looked nothing like Flack’s ... same process though.
- my replacement diode (mobiletron RN47) had channels for the main body wires that I assume needed crimping and not soldering.
- also sanded all contact surfaces
- turned alternator on side to solder rectifier rather than drip solder into alt.

Thanks Mick for the original write-up works great Thumbs Up

Channel cut into rectifier w/ dremmel

2x wires (of 6) on main body
