Alternator diagnosis with IID

I am having some battery drain trouble with my D4. I have checked the drain according to the Quiescent Drain instructions given by Robbie (great work, thank you very much!!).
However I am unable to attach the clampmeter to the wire going into the alternator. Maybe because it's a LHD. The cable just too tightly fits around the BJB and there is no way to lever it out enough to fit the clamp.
The IID shows a quiescent drain of 130mA. Since the mA reading on the cable leading to the BJB reads around the normal value (between 30-50mA, btw is there a good method to zero the instrument correctly?) I suspect a faulty diode on the alternator.
Is there a way to tell if the alternator is the problem with the IID? Alternator charge is ok I just suspect a faulty diode which causes the drain.
Thanks for your help.
