Alp Bound

Sounds nasty..Anyone heading south to the Alps next weekend. Last year there was a crowd of D3's in Calais was sure there would be a few site members present. Northern France is a bit monotonous and some disco spotting would keep me awake. Were travelling down on Friday am Blue D3 NV07 complete with first aid kit, yellow jackets, snow chains ( please god dont let me use them in anger) spare bulbs and determined to keep speed down this year as my luck with the French Police is bound to run out . Taking own wine seems Sainsburys may be as cheap as buying enroute and flasks to supply kids with hot chocolate saving me a tener a day !! Can you picnic on the slopes.

11:50am check-in at Ashford for 12:20 departure. Due out the other end of the black hole at 13:55 local time. Silver with white reflective Disco3 sticker on rear window Thumbs Up Heading for Dole for the overnighter (just past Dijon) then on down to Les Contamines (20 minutes off the Geneva - Chamonix road)

Cheer when you see me in the Telepeage lane surrounded by bemused Frenchmen - I have a transponder 8)

Will take an earlier crossing if possible, as I see Eurotunnel are promising a full service for that weekend Whistle
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Taking the 0732 train crossing. Roof box but no dogs this time. Probably aroung Baune too. D3 badge almost gone following dogs liking the taste! Safe travel everyone and hopefully stay at the correct speed - at least until well south from Calais where they do seem to like the Brits to provide them with income Very Happy

We have just got back, word of warning, do not eat out at all - its bloody expensive. We went self catering and took all our food with us, skied back to the appartment every lunchtime and cooked our own lunch. I also took my slow cooker and did stuff like chilli etc. We ate out on the last night - 110 euros for 3 of us Shocked Diesel is 1 euro 10 and to eat at the big chicken half way down to the alps is 70 euros!!!

Have to agree about that France has become expensive. I was down 2 weeks ago and everything is more expensive. It was odd to get cheaper diesel at home rather in france. Very Happy

8.45 am Eurotunnel on Friday, Dijon, then onto Flaine.

Thought I'd get the car serviced pre-trip (55,000 miles). Problems with handbrake, track rod ends.........£1,400 later and 4 new tyres (£160 a pop not the £240 the dealer wanted) we are ready to go.

Think we will be eating snow and air all week.
I used to hate 4x4's now I'm not so sure...

Word of warning, there are a lot more speed cameras on the E17 and the police were everywhere hiding! I got flashed twice on the way home, but I'm hoping they won't bother sending a ticket.

You lucky Censored ... I've had my ski trip for this year already. Had a week in Les Gets about 3 weeks ago. Absolutely brilliant weather, great snow. Did most of the Portes de Soleil.

BUT they really are taking the p*ss when it's £3.60 for a bottle of Stella. £7.50 for a bowl of soup. Even got me on my way home .. £9.00 for a sandwich and a small coffee at Geneva Airport. Big Cry

Was thinking about going back out at Easter but I think it may continue to be " just thinking " about it!
Something that doesn't drink diesel and doesn't cost a bloody fortune everytime it needs serviced / fixed. But hey ....I got a deal from the leasing company on my D3 that you guys can only dream about !

I am in Austria on the moment (for work) driving back next weekend if we are ready then. I think food and fuel is a lot cheaper in austria. You can get diesel and petrol here for less then a euro a litre. Mr. Green
