Hello All,
After 9 years of enjoying our D3 Metropolis it's time for change.
The adventure began two months ago, trying to agree on a suitable replacement. We waited very patiently for the Volvo XC90 to arrive at our local dealer because SHMBO said we had to!
After a very critical look and test drive I could offer very little resistance.
The Boss was right, it was a more than adequate replacement, modern, fresh, and considerably more economical. So the die was cast for change, colour and spec selected and price agreed (£56k).
But something wasn't quite right about the deal, full price for everything no discount whatsoever.
I plucked up courage and suggested we visit the Land Rover dealer and finally dismiss a new D4. Fortunately the disco in the showroom was the HSE Lux,fully loaded and a site for sore eyes.
Even the Boss had a smug grin on her pretty little face as the kids played with the TVs in the back seat,it just felt right for us.
After a leisurely test drive followed by some horse trading with a reasonable discount the deal was done. HSE Lux corris grey with privacy glass and 5 year service plan (£56k) due October.
There's something reassuring about a gut feeling, my brain said change but my hart overruled and said no.
The XC90 is a wonderful motor car but it's NOT a Land Rover discovery ! D4 HSE Lux,corris grey.
D3-2006 Metropolis.
Silver.
Black leather.
Lots of toys.

I can understand how the Volvo might appeal, but also struggle with the pricing. This is a competitive proposition in the £30,000 to (at a push) £45,000 region but how Volvo have persuaded the media that it's a D4 competitor is a mystery. Many say that they would choose the Volvo because they just don't need much of what the D4 offers; now that's a fair comment, but why still pay the price of a D4 for less?
Glad that you found what you all wanted in the end 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!
(One of only two known to exist in the world!)

Agreed the xc90 is 10k more than it's worth easily.
Same story here and also ended up with luxury/corris/privacy, looking at the number of grey vehicles about now beginning to wish I'd gone with something a little less understated like the Firenze red. However it does look stunning when clean.
Love everything about the disco except the thirst but it's not life changingly bad !

Don't think the resale value will hold up either against the OLD disco.

I was buying tax free Volvos for years over in Germany. Even with the VAT off and a hefty military discount, they were still expensive cars. Nice motors, but not a Landrover. I have got a cracking photo somewhere though of me green laning in my XC70, the Haldex 4x4 system done me proud!

These two sentences sum it all up and totally endorse that you made the right decision.
Spec sounds lovely btw ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.
