The Alliance Against Urban 4x4s
Recently over the past few moths there has been a lot of hype from Greenpeace and other "anti-4x4" campaigners. The biggest group of 4x4 haters are the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s (www.stopurban4x4s.org.uk) who have been cursing the drivers of 4x4s. Not that long ago, Greenpeace broke into Land Rover's Solihull factory and chained theirselves to the production line, halting Land Rover production.
Personally, I don't agree with all this anti-4x4 nonsense and I feel that with careful drivers behind the wheel, I can't see any problem in 4x4s driving on urban roads.
Does anybody have any opinions on these people who could potentially drive the Disco of our streets?

O.K. so what mpg do our 4x4s do?? wouldn't that class them as cars in their eyes??
I wish these people would check their facts before making these dodgy websites
Cheers
Marc
Well, the statement is correct - if you can find a 12mpg 4x4 that is, although i'n not sure why it only applies to town driving and 4x4's - a 12mpg anything is bad news (especially when you fill it up...) I wish these twots would lose their tunnel vision and go and 'save' some of the less advanced countries from themselves - oh, hang on, that'd mean leaving us alone right, rant over, back to the seal clubbing....

Jokes aside, my Jimny is just under 1 tonne in weight a true 4x4 and does about 38 to 40 mpg. It takes up less space than a BMW Mini and can carry 5 people easily and a dog, where is the arguement of these idiots on about 4x4's including Jeremy Vine this afternoon on BBC Radio 2.
It is pure ignorance.
PS, I would rather be hit by the Jimny than a Mini in a crash.

I'd happily draft a letter, but as a large part of my life is spent dealing with NGO accusations of one sort or another - almost always factually incorrect - the prospect doesn't fill me with the same sort of deep joy as driving a D3.

Maybe it is time to put a few facts together so that we can draft a letter. But first it would be very useful to obtain safety facts and crash test data.

I have just spoken to MIRA and the TRL will try to get some data tomorrow. In the meantime all hands to the pumps lads, give us some details to work on. If you post them here we can pick them up.

Hi,
I am certainly not a fan of the anti-4x4 brigade on the best of days, so I have already written them a long and detailed letter with the error of their ways. They did not reply so I sent a second with no reply. After my third letter I have given up. They just wont cooperate. It has been quite a while since I sent my last letter though...

Ignorant idiots such as these rarely reply, because that is how they operate. They are just stirrers.
