Call The Large One (Yeovil LR Parts Guru) to see if he can get you a service exchange aircon compressor. A new one is about 500 quid, even with the discount! It took Yeovil almost all day to change my compressor, so it's not an easy task to change it because it's low down in the engine bay.

Just found a company in Lincoln that sells OEM (part number JPB000182 & 183) pumps for £285+vat with free delivery!!!. Phone call in the morning (please please please have it on the shelf). Or Rimmers will do exchange units for a bit more. So not to bad in the pocket. I've already had most of the front end of this car before - but not the aircon pump area. Just concerned about the gas pipes and how to remove them, as it's a black hole down there... with no hand space. Just how much stuff around it needs to be removed and the refitted. Very time consuming.
Confused

If that's for a new unit then it's a good price, but the current LR part numbers are LR012795 for a service exchange (about £300 incl VAT) and LR014064 for a new one(~£500 inc). It's well worth giving Nick @ Yeovil a call before you buy one from anywhere else. I think most of the work to change it is done from underneath - take the bottom covers off and have a poke around Thumbs Up

Seems that these pumps are hard to come by. Tried various suppliers all with the same answer - factory item (land rover) with varying costs - all requiring the old pump back with a surcharge (expected).

Removed most of the plastic work around the front end of engine. Viscous fan put a fight - but used the old belt to throttle the pully and a good thwack with a 36mm spanner sorted that... Thumbs Up just all the pipes (coolant, power steering, aircon) idler, etc etc etc before I can even get to the pump for 3 bolts, 2 pipes and 1 electric cable.....

have photos (how do I upload these) of damage and improvising using the old belt to throttle the pulley.

(The large one is away at the mo - Yeoville LR)

Air Con Pump can have a £50 service kit for the Pulley replacement rather than the whole pump.

sounds like a good idea - but I believe that the pump has locked up and then the pulley bearing and drive just couldn't hack the strain.... various ball bearings and bit of pulley mounting found in the bottom tray.

I'm still trying to work out how to unbolt this pump ( or even get at it to unbolt it). Confused

Have you looked on LRTopix site for the instructions on how to change the aircon compressor? It will cost you about about 7 quid (IIRC) for a days access but all the info you need is there. Have you had the system de-gassed yet?

LRTOPix

Thanks for the pointer with regard to LRTOPix. Very Happy

I've just printed off the relevant pages. But as normal with most maintenance manuals it makes it look so easy. Rolling with laughter

not sure what to do about the de-gassing - might need to call for a mobile engineer to do this then recharge later once it's rebuilt.

There is a huge number of pipes and access is for small hands. I've already removed most of the trim and inner wing area just so i could trace the pipes and remove some of the turbo heat shields. Being an HSE with twin aircon - some of the pipes aren't shown in the maint manual for this procedure. Never mind is just plumbing and Censored Censored frustration...... followed by nuts and bolts Laughing

I'll post more photos of the guts of the job once I'm sorted.

All I need now is that replacement pump. Choices choices choices.

England

At the risk of teaching granny to suck the proverbial egg, you must get the refrigerant recovered and then recharged - don't just let it off into the atmosphere Thumbs Up

refrigerant

cheers for the reminder - hence the RTFM (Read The F Censored Manual) before the real spanner work is carried out. Just hope I'm not waiting days for an appointment with the Aircon doctor Rolling Eyes

Refrigerant removal

How lucky was I to get a mobile fitter to call in this afternoon to recover the refrigerant - only one problem - NO GAS IN SYSTEM Shocked Rolling with laughter (lucky he was on way home and not to far out of his way) Just the question of is it leaking if so were from? - or was it empty in the first place? (I've never had it checked) So have a contact in the local area for a refill when needed.

Yippy thinks I, - drain the coolant, remove the air con pipes and presto off with the compressor.....

NO - Sad catch 22 with some of these pipes that can't removed, without removing another one first - but the first one is blocking the fixings . See photos later.

Do you have rear aircon?
Usual place for the pipes to rupture is underneath just rearward of the NSF wheel arch. Might be worth a look!

yep have rear air con. I've already found the pipes as I removed the inner wing. I look further into that area. I did find that there was cable loom trapped between the pipes and and the bulkhead. Sloppy build or maintenance by some previously.
