job done

Hi Mart,

yes completed the job - took me 3 days...... working on my own without instructions at first. Access is the biggest nightmare. Someone to help with small hands is desirable.

I took loads of photos which I need to upload.

The job isn't engineeringly hard - but access is well lets say working through a letter box size hole would of been easier.

Need to dash at the moment - I'll upload some photos and explain the method.

Regards

John

PS - yes I would do this job again..

Well done John...your braver than me Shocked

I stripped the wheel arc down and had a good look around, but after an hour I thought... need a bigger hammer Wink

Put it back together and took it to a local garage, as your right it’s not difficult job (if you’re a key whole surgeon). It’s just that the access is crazy.. so left it to someone with more patience than me..

I don't think the garage will want to do another one as it took them 14 hours !!!!!....

Fair play to them they only charged me £200, add this to the £250 for the compressor and the £70 de-gas/Re-gas and check. Adds to £520 all in... A lot better than £1000+ I was quoted from the main stealers !!!!...

I would still be interested in the pics and how you got the darn thing out and new one back in though..

I have to change one. body's already off anyway, fan off and it still looks a b*st*rd to do! I think turbo pipe and some water pipes off and access may just be adequate, sourced a new pump for £205. I'm half thinking that lifting the engine may make it easier.

I think Disco-Mikey's right with 10mm. He's generally the man that knows

WELL.. even with the body off its a b*st*rd of a job. heat shields off, pipes off, clips off water pump off, power steering pump also, the hardest bolt was the rear of the PS pump. I can't see reassembly being much easier either.

My first compressor replacement was 4 or 5 hours, body on

You've taken off a whole load of things that dont have to come off too

Its not the easiest of jobs, but to be made it a whole lot more awkward than it needed to be 😬

D-M, you're right but there was no way the compressor would come out without taking the PS pump off as there'e a pipe to the side that I just couldn't access the clips, obviously preassembled at the factory by some numpty intent on preventing anyones effort for future maintenance.
I'm well impressed with 4-5 hrs.
