Air suspension, dash light but clears with longer drive. |

Hi,
My D3 gave me an early Christmas present of the "wobbly disco" orange light and display of "air suspension fault, normal mode only"
Thing is that I have only been doing a lot of short 1-2 mile trips in driving rain and lots of puddles on roads. When I did a couple of longer trips (all of 10 miles) the fault has cleared mid trip on both accounts. Does that mean anything?
In general the car is level and not hunting hight and I cant hear any compressor noise at odd times.
I should have some time over the holiday to get it on ramps and have a look about is there anything specific to look for other than spraying soapy water on the joints and looking for bubbles. I was thinking on leaving the cover off the compressor area and giving it dry off with my workshop heater etc?
PS I have charged the battery overnight twice so im reasonably sure its not a low voltage issue. Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

I had this a few weeks ago and the warning triangle started to come on much more frequently. I removed the compressor and found the dessicant had gone solid and there was quite a lot of white powder inside. After changing the dessicant the warning light has not been back on and the compressor is working perfectly again.
Easy job took just a couple of hours, I purchased a complete overhaul kit from Ebay but only needed the dessicant.

Hi, Might go for a code read but also thinking of buying a reader myself. Possibly the Icarsoft LR2, anyone know if thats any use of this type of fault?
I might be able to get the local garage to do a read for me, they are pretty goo helping me out on some stuff (fellow motorsport fans etc) Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

When I had this issue I read the codes with my IID tool and got two fault codes, C1131-92 and
C1A20-64. I also had the "normal height only" message on the dash, the IID code related to component failure as far as I remember.
It seemed to me best to try the easy and cheap solution before changing the compressor which worked and I have had no more warnings on the dash.
One thing you mention is the warning triangle went out during a 10 mile run, did you stop and re-start the engine or did it just go out while driving? When my car was playing up I could clear the warning every time by stopping and re-starting the engine.

Hi,
Got my codes read today. Just had CA120-64 Pressure Increase too slow when filling reservoir. (indeterminate thingy)
Code was cleared but came back on the way home.

No harm checking with soapy water but my money is on the dessicant needing replacing. I did the soapy water test on mine but found no leaks. Its cheap and easy to replace the dessicant.

Thanks, do I need to take the underside plate off to check the type of the compressor or is there an easy way.

Yes, best to remove the lower cover, chances are that it will be an Hitachi unless it has been changed previously.
I found the best way to remove the top bolt of the compressor housing was to loosen the mounting rubbers this gives a little more room to get on the top bolt, I used a 10mm ratchet spanner and it was quite easy to remove.
When replacing the compressor I took the advise of someone on here and cut a horizontal slot in the mounting bracket this allows you to insert the bolt into the top position then just slide the bracket onto the bolt, this makes replacement much easier.
You may need to replace the captive nuts in the chassis they do tend to rust, however they were fine on my car.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info. Had some time this morning to have a look and its split on the dryer cap between the lines which I can see is a common problem (soapy water did me proud). I ordered repair kit (cap, desiccant, filters) so that should be it.
All the screws were made of cheese though, caps on the torx/allen bolts failed and the 10mm one sheared with next to no effort. I might see if I can find some stainless ones around. Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

I also purchased the full kit complete with new end cap, I did replace the endcap but the original was still perfect, my problem was entirely down to the dessicant there was a lot of fine white powder and the dessicant had virtually solidified.
I did not bother to replace the piston parts I have saved them for next time a fault shows up!!
Let us know if it cures your problem.

Hi All
I am also planning to replace my desiccant and filter and will buy one of the kits from X8r. When you guys did the job did you jack the car up onto axle stands? Did you have to de-pressurise the system at all?
