Your Air Filter is Fine.. no really it doesn't need changed.
Heh, so I just had the Disco in for work, and the stealer performed their lil checklist of items, including checking the air filter to ensure it doesn't need to be replaced. The documents said the air filter was good, meaning it shouldn't need changed in the near future.
I decided to check for myself and found different results. I placed a new filter next to my current filter just removed from the Disco..
Quite humorous really, either the tech at the stealership didn't check the filter (this is my thoughts) or he or she really needs to go back to training...
I figured this may be a good laugh for a few of you.. I found it quite funny.

I've seen worse. I am surprised they didn't replace it as it is more money for them. At least they are not getting you to pay for something you don't need.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

yep - over here in the US, if you use an oil change shop for intermediate oil changes, they always try and sell you a new air filter, and new cabin filter every time!

According to the book, first filter change is 3 years or 36K (miles)
You would not be the only one to have this experience, after getting bad consumption on ours not long after having it I checked the filter bearing in mind it had been serviced pre-sale (secondhand purchase) and found:
So your not alone...

OK, let me first confess ignorance.
Now, Honest Injun question: what's so bad with that air filter?

I agree, not much on that filter at all. I'd probably just give it a knock/blow out and refit. Check at the next service. If you have a look at a "New" filter after about 500 miles it will look dirty.Renny Thomson

Mine was similar to that at 25k miles, (I've seen worse TBH), I replaced mine then, but, in my case, didn't make a blind bit of difference to fuel consumption .......So the original one will be going back in before the next service
It's worse than that, every 45k according to the maintenance check sheets They're not expensive so worth doing at every service if not more often, or fit an after market one (ITG, K&N etc) and remember to clean itThe End

The black triangle shape was oiliy, hence, not allowing air flow as well as it should, hence I changed it.
Did not seem to affect fuel consumption with new filter (which pushed dealer to fit), however as they are less than £20 as I recall from the large one, why would not NOT fit a new filter on a £30k motor to save £20?
