Air con stopping

RE: Discovery Sport 2016

Hi there, on a long journey (3 hours+) with Air Con on, towards the end of the journey the system stops blowing out cold air. If I stop the car and leave for 30 mins, it's ok again. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

This doesn't happen on short trips and doesn't happen all the time on the longer trips either.

Cheers, Graham

Usually if the engine overheats the air conditioning stops. Check it’s not overheating.

When did you last have the gas pressure/quantity checked?

It was suggested by an air con specialist that this fault can be caused by discernable end float
on the pump shaft. Age and mileage needs to be taken into account of course on whether to rectify or replace the unit itself.

That sounds like the evap freezing up. Does it drop a *lot* of water on the drive for ages after you stop? Do you have a diagnostic tool and can you watch the evap temperature sensor and the compressor load while you drive?

That could be caused by anything from a duff evap sensor through to the compressor displacement unit being stuck open (which could be caused by a worn compressor as indicated above or sticky control valve or, or, or...).

Fair point, I just let them do the service and maybe it should be part of that? I'll ask the garage

Ok, that's what happened, it took a good few minutes before water appeared though. I'm booking into the dealer today... Cheers!
