Air compressor

Thanks to PCH for the info on the rooftent - I'm expecting one to arrive in the next couple of weeks Very Happy

Next advice I'm after is about tyre inflators - I'm dropping pressure to 15 PSI for the dunes and having to wait all day to get them back to road pressure. There's a supplier for Bushranger compressors. Any feedback on which is best?

I have the Power Air abt $100. I use it for the caravan and car. It comes with a 5 year warranty. Does the job and does not take up much room weight 2kg. Had it for a couple of years.

If you want to pump up tyres reasonably quickly, a vehicle mounted one is the best. I have just ordered an ARB CKMA12 (75 l/sec @ 0 kpa and 62 l/sec @ 200 kpa). It will fit perfectly in front of the main battery.
I currently use a smaller portable one (25 l/sec) which is OK for an occasional use.

Compressor

DT, just bought a 2006 TDV6. Lots of questions and this is one of them!! Does the vehicle mounted compressor come with a reasonable length hose? How long? If you are towing a camper tariler will you need a separate portable one??

Shocked Shocked

I think you mean 75l per minute??

I have the Shellian double pumper - around $200 and 150l/min - available from Shellian Hydraulics in Perth. Apart from the hose, it seems to be an excellent compressor. Very fast and no noticeable performance drop over 4 tyres.

Cheers,

Gordon

The standard hose I believe will only reach all the vehicle tyres. If is easy to get another hose from a hose supplier to any required length. I did this with a previous Disco with an under the bonnet compressor.

I have a Bushranger compressor Thumbs Up I use it a lot around the farm as well as off roading, I made a air tank for it so can build up volune to fit tubeless tires back on, it is quick and seams to be a quality compressor at a reasonable price, Very Happy One word of caution it can draw up to 30 amps at full load so you need to conect it directly to the battery and have engine running. Shocked

the optional hose you can get with the ARB compressor is 6mts long but if you use a camper/caravan often then you could plumb an air line to the rear for greater reach.

As for hoses buy at Super Cheap the length you need and fittings , this could be better and cost very much less.

If you have the funds there is the Twin tongue. It runs two thompson compressors joined and you will have inflated your four tyres and either put it away or inlflated the last two of your mates tyres if he is using an ARB pump.
The ARB compressor is really for the diff locker and the air flow does fade away when the tyre pressure raises to road pressure.

No, I've shied away from doing that as the last two I had prematurely died. I suspect the water/mud/heat is not kind to them. Whistle

I just have mine in the back - sits nicely in the hollowed-out section by the side of the rear seat-row.

Cheers,

Gordon
